I can't sleep in. God I try but it is vain and has always been thus.

Arrived last night after 30 hours travel and was duly whacked. Early night but at 4:45 this morning I was awake. Same time I am up each morning and it doesn't appear to matter where in the world that is.

Maiori lies on the Amalfi Coast. It is a small town of approximately 6000 people from what I can tell. It reminds me very much of my fathers home town of Cintruenego in Spain...Maiori of course has a beautiful coastline that Cintruenego does not!

So at 4;45am I decided to go for a swim. Non starter.....pool doesn't open until 9...and there a host of rules which is a thread on its own lol3.gif

So I decided to go for a walk a soon as the sun rose (approximately 5:45). I haven't got a water view from my lovely serviced apartment but I have a great balcony and a lovely vista.

I love early morning walks as you get a feel for a place. That is either sober at 6am or coming home at the same time in a more joyous state. You see different peoples...different feels,,,but you get my drift.

I found Maiori at this time of the morning to be a relaxed place. Hardly anyone on the streets, crikey the fishermen at the wharf hadn't headed out yet lmao.gif It is times like these that I wish Di was here. She loves walking in the morning (the healthy one...and the intoxicated one)...she would have loved it.

Beautiful.

On the way back after a couple of hours I found a great little deli with the most beautiful tomatoes and cheese. I miss real tomatoes, the flavours, the aroma. A shower and a little brunch on my patio. Simple fresh bread, vine ripened tomatoes, goats cheese, basil, salt, pepper, chilli oil....and a few glasses of Barbaresco. A l little Hamlet Robusto to go with it.

I haven't caught up with anyone else yet...looking forward to it this afternoon.

Cheers!

Looks spellbinding, Rob. Last time I visited the Italian coast in 2011 (Imperia....on the northwest coast), I was similarly impressed. It surely makes one feel alive!

Are hamlets a custom roll? I think I have heard of these but information is limited/non existent on them..

Looks like a beautiful place to wake up, enjoy the rest you're adventures for the day.

Gino called at just after 1pm. "where are you!!!!"

I caught up with him 15 minutes later. People like Gino is why I do what I do. In the world of cigars you will not meet someone who is so humble, so full of life, so into the understanding that cigars are about the person, the friendships and not the cigar. I love him like a brother. I haven't seen him in a year and it was like we only said goodbye yesterday.

Gino introduced me to Fernando (left) and Roberto Pardal (LCDH Argentina) on the right. Two brilliant blokes and we all headed up the mountain to the township of Ravello. The history goes back to Roman empire times. Stunning. One of the great afternoons of my life as on a perfect day we strolled through magnificent scenery, sat down to a late lunch of pizza, beer, 2002 Des Dieux, coffee.

I lost myself in this world of antiquity. It was a pleasure to be introduced to it by old and new friends alike. This is cigars. It is what introduces us, makes us richer for the interaction and opportunity."no tossers, no wankers" just good people sharing a love of life and a love of the leaf.

Tonight we head off to the initial "unofficial" dinner. I will post some photo's tomorrow.

Thank you Gino, Fernando and Roberto for a remarkable afternoon ok.gif

Onto tonight's festivities!

Rob, I feel you on wishing your significant other is with you on these trips. I'm in Copenhagen right now and wish my wife could join me. I get to see a lot of sights but it seems a bit hollow without the ones you love. And I can never convey the feeling that I get when I see some of these places.
