soutso Posted May 30, 2015 Posted May 30, 2015 Hi all, I have had an issue with wood mites of late. The bugs I see are either exceptionally tiny and creamy/white in color or what is pictured below. I finally managed to get a clear-ish picture of one. It's been damned hard. I don't suspect the dreaded beetle as my stock has no sign of damage or dust. Whilst I've done the usual google searches, can anyone confirm my assumption that this is wood mite?
LordAnubis Posted May 30, 2015 Posted May 30, 2015 Yeah it looks like some wood mite type insect. Doesn't look like tobacco beetles to me. Not the ones i've seen anyway. I wouldn't be too worries though i would try and remove the creatures by just brushing them off into your garden or something.
Stanislaw Posted May 30, 2015 Posted May 30, 2015 Looks like a book louse. That is correct, I found some of these last year and spent weeks trying to figure out what it was. They feed on paper and the glue used to hold the band together (from what I gathered) and are usually found in older home and come up through the wood floors... How do you store your cigars, if I may ask? From what I've read they are not a concern as they do not eat tobacco but it "bugged" me to know they were there and that's when I froze all my boxes to get rid of them....
El Presidente Posted May 30, 2015 Posted May 30, 2015 They tend to feed on the box glue. If it is feasible, take your cigars out of the boxes (tap each one to ensure no mites are on them) and place the boxes lid open in the sun for the day. The mites will scurry away.
