PapaDisco Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 I gotta concur with the votes for Pu Ehr tea. It's a fermented black tea that has the curious property of never overpowering your tea no matter how long you leave the leaves in to steep. An additional bonus is that if, drunk regularly (daily), it will reduce your bad cholesterol and raise your good cholesterol! There's also a Governor's Green Gunpowder tea (if I recall the name correctly) that I had at the Metropole in Hanoi that went well with my Punch Punch. Not easy to find elsewhere (plain old Governor's Green tastes different). 1
earthson Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 Sencha is probably my favorite, although it is hard to find it in good quality. When brewed extra strong, there is an undeniable sweet element in it that drives me nuts! 1
merc Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 DWC - WuYi oolongs can be some of the most expensive teas around. There's different grades though, and you can get decent stuff without having to mortgage your house. WuYi oolongs are rock teas; they grow on the mountain in either very shallow soil or hard clay. As a result they have a unique mineral taste to them. Roro - I'm heading to Japan for a mate's bucks party in December, will try and get away for a couple of days for some tea hunting. I understand the top sencha can get pretty expensive though. CharbelAntoine - glad you're giving it a try. You don't need any special equipment to brew puerh. Just know that people tend to brew it for multiple infusions - I wouldn't buy a tea that doesn't have the stamina at least ten good infusions. Rinse the leaves in boiling water before the first infusion. As in pour boiling water on the leaves, and pour it out straight away. If you have any questions just send me a PM 2
PeterJames Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 I enjoy drinking Earl Grey tea with my cigars, I haven't really had many others! 1
CharbelAntoine Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 Get some nice teaware and figure out storage now before you buy your first tong (basically a box of compressed tea cakes) have fun exploring the world of puerh! I'm afraid it's going to be like the period I started drinking Yerba Mate. Bought all the stuff for it and spent some $$ (thankfully it wasnt that much, could've been worse) since I thought I would drink it forever. Today I drink it once a month. And I don't even use the "equipment" for it...
