A few days back my wife and I were shopping in Marina Bay Sands Singapore on the way home from an awesome wedding in KL..I was convinced to have a look in the TWG store ..a massive display of different and amazing smelling teas ...now I would much prefer a nice single malt a G&T or a nice red with a cigar but tea simply puts and enjoyable and different even delicate perspective within the experience .

I wish I had pictures of us in the shop smelling massive canisters of amazing teas ..it was such a cool experience and my wife and I had a lot of fun. All up I think we spent around a couple of hundred dollars on a few different teas ...their were some teas there retailing for $200 for 50 grams ..we didn't go that far ....

Anyway post away if you have any tea recommendations and or pairings with cigars ....Ken I know you posted something on tea some time back ...so lets relive it a little

Westy I enjoy a nice cup of Genmaicha, which is a japanese green tea with toasted brown rice. I pair it with anything in my humidor, but I think it works best with mild to medium sticks. Last night I had about 3 cups over 90 mins with a Boli GM.

Hot Pies.

Plain White Tea is the best pallette preparer for me. It's light and very low in tannins so you never have to worry about it affecting the flavors of a cigar.

I enjoy an Ti Kuan Yin (Tieguanyin) has an great nutty flavour and kind of buttery feel, never had one with an cigar yet.

Funny the process they take to make this great tea if done correct is a story in its own about 12 steps from memory and done by hand, kind of like making an cigar, they flip the leaves to dry and roll each leaf by hand into an ball that folds out once placed into warm water not boiling.

I now drink different types of teas over coffee, with this type I can make around 4 infusions (cups) from one quantity.

I can not function without my Earl Grey in the morning. I like many teas though a couple of my favorites are Moroccan Mint and Ginseng tea.

Love tea! If you get the chance try pu'er (pu-erh) tea. It comes from the Yunnan province of China, and has a rich, earthy taste. I've actually had a pretty successful time pairing it with NC cigars, haven't tried with CC's yet :)

I drink tea with cigars, appreciate all kinds. But my favourites are Chinese teas. My puerh collection is getting to the point where I need to think of storage options.

Raw ("sheng") puerh tea is a world of it's own. Wet stored vs dry stored (humidity levels), young vs aged tea, factory blends vs boutique productions from a single mountain, I'm sure the FoH community can understand how this can spiral into an obsession.

Recently I have noticed that I easily fall in love with the taste of fermented products, wine, cheese, ham and of course cigars. So when I found out that there is fermented tea (Pu-ehr) 2 days ago, I had to try it and pulled the trigger.

Anything I should think of before I brew and how easy is it to be hooked to the world of Pu-ehr?

I recently tried blending about 75% Pu-erh and 25% Lapsang Souchong and paired it with a cigar. Gives a smooth creamy low acid earthy taste of Pu-erh with a subtle smoky background from the Lapsang. I really liked it a lot and will definitely do it more often.

I also drink a lot of a Wuyi Oolong. I don't know much about it other than I like it. I haven't used it for cigar pairing, I just drink it because I like it.

As an Asian, I had some pretty darn expensive teas, and I enjoyed most of them. Especially when I visit my father, he always has some fancy tea that cost way more than I can justify.

But at the same time, as an American, Lipton does the trick for me most of the time. I just like the convenience.

Get some nice teaware and figure out storage now before you buy your first tong (basically a box of compressed tea cakes) have fun exploring the world of puerh! :)
