How reliable is the freeze at the cigar factories in Cuba- Beetle tension

Recommended Posts

I must have just had bad luck this year then with beetles in a box of Shorts and a box of La Fuerzas coming from the Island--my first beetle issues, ever. On the other hand, I have a nice dead beetle for show and tell, and after freezing my sticks, I'm good to smoke.

I freeze ALL incoming boxes regardless of what goes on in Havana. Better to be safe than sorry, and 72 hours in the freezer has no adverse effects on the sticks.

I had a beetle hole on a stick from a box of monte 4's last year but no sign of the little devils... From that moment on I began freezing all my stock that comes in because it's best to be safe....

How do cigars do in warmer climates without proper refrigeration for sticks (like, um, Cuba)? At this moment I only have one box in a Tupperware container with 2 boveda packs and the NYC temps have begun to climb into the 90's... I guess I'll have to risk it and see if I get mold or bugs....
