Interesting reading. I've seen some excerpts from that book before.

As well as being somewhat 'one-sided', There are a few inconsistencies in the article. 'Whisky on the rocks or scotch over ice'. Well which is it?..

Without condoning anything Fidel has done or may have done, if there were 638 attempts on my life (allegedly) I think I'd be hoisting dairy cows onto my roof too!

Besides its not like he commandeered his own cigar factory and then filled it with rollers to create his own personal blend and brand of cigars, for his own personal enjoyment.

Oh wait.

I actually saw Fidel on my visit to Cuba about 10 years ago. Funny story, in that I was in the street in Havana with a good mate and we were on our way to meet a guy about purchasing a humidor. Then all of a sudden everyone started running through the streets. Didn't have a clue what was going on but got the gist of it when I heard people yelling, "Fidel". So we followed the crowd and he emerged out of a government building, waved and got into a black car with lots of military with machine guns and a convoy of vehicles. Found out later that he was actually speaking to some American students apparently. Only saw him from a distance for about 15 seconds but a bit of a thrill no matter how one views the politics.

The man has to take some time off from revolutionary work.

If he was smoking the best Cohiba's in public I wonder what kind of hybrid he was smoking in secret...

Sounds like despite the military fatigues and the hard line political views, Fidel is a total bro, living it up in mansions, yachts, private islands, booze, women left and right... who'd have guessed?

I knew about the yacht and the luxury living, didn't know about the private island. Must have been nice.

How is this a surprise to anyone.

I'm not surprised by the luxuries and mistresses. I am genuinely surprised about enjoying whisky on the rocks...surely the guy could've have developed some class in his whisky enjoyment over the years! laugh.png
