sengjc Posted May 13, 2017 Posted May 13, 2017 Giving the 2008 R Wine the Wine another go this time in a more controlled surrounding and prior to dinner. The first bottle was consumed in a busy Chinese restaurant over some spicy cuisine and after quite a few bottles wine prior. Needless to say it fell short of the mark - all I could remember of it was: "alcoholic Ribena concentrate served in a freshly turned oak cup. This time round, not too bad, quite pleasant actually. The nose is quite intense and very rich. On the palate, the oak is still very pronounced and the sweetness is present but there is a lush and rich dark fruit compote that seems to balance it somewhat. A little porty and syrupy but borderline acceptable as a dry(ish) table wine. I suppose that it is to be expected for such high alcoholic strength.A gentle burn as it is swallowed, followed by a long vanillin-oaky fade. Not really a complex wine but it is quite fun, in a more-ish sort of way. 2

sengjc Posted May 23, 2017 Posted May 23, 2017 Weighing in at 18% this is the biggest dry red wine that I have ever had.Don't find this porty or jammy, in fact, every bit a well structured and balanced red.A delightful surprise. 1

Expand have tried a few warrabilla. a bit quirky. they tend to be surprisingly well balanced for such a ridiculous amount of alcohol but they are still too extreme for me. 1
SirVantes Posted May 27, 2017 Posted May 27, 2017 Thrillingly alive for a wine that's past the half century mark. Reinforces my love for Barolo. 4
gusto616 Posted May 27, 2017 Posted May 27, 2017 A taste of some dusty Old Forester to start things out for me early this evening.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro 2
JohnS Posted May 28, 2017 Posted May 28, 2017 A good mate came round last night so we cracked open some quality drinks! Great night! 3
sengjc Posted May 28, 2017 Posted May 28, 2017 Drinks at a mate's place today:Love the Campbeltown Loch 21 Year Old, very Springbank - quirky and fun, good clean quality spirit and excellent use of wood. My pick of the lot. 2
sengjc Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 Drinks over the past few days.I have to say that I am most impressed with the Grand Merlot. To my taste, this is far better than the Pomerols and St. Emilions that I have tried.

No wines age like those Jura's! You ever see his catalog of vintages available? He recommends uncorking the wine and let it sit for several days instead of decanting. Not ideal for a pop and pour, but I like to do it this way for his wines. Just plan ahead....

The back label does have the recommended opening / drinking instructions. I will probably buy some whites to put away, and at some point would like to do a side by side tasting of the Bourdy and L'Etoile reds. Thanks for bringing the whites to my attention
sengjc Posted June 3, 2017 Posted June 3, 2017 Happy Ardbeg Day 2017!Having a taste of the new Kelpie - reminds me of a mellow Perpetuum with the signature Ardbeg bite toned down and a herbal edge. Malty sweetness dominates and quite a lengthy finish. 1
sengjc Posted June 3, 2017 Posted June 3, 2017 Enjoying a bottle of the 2002 Gibson Barossa Vale Shiraz - excellent wine that over delivers on its price. 1
Mr.T Posted June 4, 2017 Posted June 4, 2017 88 degrees outside means Caipirinha season has officially begun!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 4
sengjc Posted June 5, 2017 Posted June 5, 2017 Had this bottle over the weekend:Lovely and vibrant still with ample secondary character development to make an impressively complex wine.Having this tonight:Fruit has faded noticeably with the secondary profile. Opens up in the glass. Still an interesting and cerebral drink nonetheless. Subtle. 1
