sengjc Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 Whisky and cigars at my place. Bladnoch 12 Year Old Sherry Matured and Glenmorangie Milsean in my glasses.
sengjc Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 Which SMWS is that mate? An empty bottle that I use for water these days. Used to be a Glen Elgin 15 Year Old.

sengjc Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 Getting the wine ready for tonight's wine dinner. Double decanting larger formats can be quite tricky and takes a fair amount of patience.

maverickdrinker Posted March 13, 2016 Author Posted March 13, 2016 Tried the Kirkland bourbon cask matured 16 yr old Highland from Alexander Murray. A little hot when drank neat. Will try it with a drop of water tonight. Also had the Glenfiddich US exclusive 14 year bourbon barrel reserve. Aged for 14 years in bourbon barrels and finished in American new oak. Much better than the Kirkland when consumed neat. Nice flavours and very smooth with a noticeable touch of sweetness. Will try with a drop water as well to see if there are any additional flavour developments.
sengjc Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 One day, I will try some of this world famous Napa Valley cabernet and see how it ranks with the Australian and French equivalents... one day... 1
sengjc Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 Some 2009 McGuigan The Shortlist Barossa Valley Shiraz to go with tonight's smoke. Having a relaxing night after dinner with a familiar smoke and an easygoing red. 1
ap67 Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 One day, I will try some of this world famous Napa Valley cabernet and see how it ranks with the Australian and French equivalents... one day... I'm a newcomer to wine, so I can't offer too many thoughts, but this was an incredible bottle (especially for the price at just under $30). I hear 2013 was a great year for most regions of California, and this certainly showed it. Highly recommend this one, if you can get your hands on it.
ap67 Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 Any Aussies tried this one? Thoughts? Plenty of blackcurrant coming through.
sengjc Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 Any Aussies tried this one? Thoughts? Plenty of blackcurrant coming through. Nope - looks to be an independent bottling, though.
sengjc Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 Having some Ardbeg 10 Year Old to warm me up a little as the weather has turned cold out of a sudden. 1
sengjc Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 Attended a "by invitation only" Diageo tasting of their 2015 Special Release Tasting earlier today at the 1806 Bar here in Melbourne. Many rare, mature and closed distilleries on offer - this is the lineup: First flight: 1997 Caol Ila 17 Year Old Unpeated, 1989 Dalwhinnie 25 Year Old, 1980 Dailuaine 34 Year Old, 1977 Brora 37 Year Old and 1983 Port Ellen 32 Year Old - paired mature goats cheese, cured meats and chocolate truffle. Second flight: 1974 Caledonian "the Cally" 40 Year Old, 1989 Pittyvaich 25 Year Old, Clynelish Select Reserve and the oddball Lagavulin 12 Year Old Cask Strength bottled 2013. It was an amazing and profound experience. I still love the Brora overall but the Port Ellen is a serious contender. The Cally was a real surprise as to how unique and excellent a single grain can be. Caol Ila and the Lagavulin are the obvious bang for your buck - top notch offerings at a fraction of the price. If I had to pick between the too, I think I would begrudgingly pick the Caol Ila - despite its namesake, there is a smidgin of peat amongst it all. Dalwhinnie, Clynelish and Pittyvaich are also stunners - pure clean profile. The Clynelish is probably just that little bit better as I think it has some European oak in its makeup but the Dalwhinnie does give it a run for its money. I didn't really understand the Dailuaine, top quality drop that it is. Then to finish it off at the bar after a light snack and a Johnnie Walker highball: Ardbeg Supernova 2015 Committee Release - magical. 4
JohnS Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 Having some Ardbeg 10 Year Old to warm me up a little as the weather has turned cold out of a sudden. Yes, the autumnal equinox has definitely arrived. We're feeling it in Sydney too!
sengjc Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 1989 Macallan 18 Year Old Sherry Oak while on Easter long weekend vacation in the Mornington Peninsula. 3
Easttide Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 If I posted everything I drank we'd be at 100 pages so here's a perfect symmetry- simple chicken parmigiana with a 2009 Villa Caffagio Chianti Classico Reserva. Coming along nicely. Few more bottles to enjoy over the years. 1
sengjc Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 Some Kavalan Solist Vinho. Making full use of the last day of this Easter long weekend. 2
