maverickdrinker Posted February 17, 2013 Author Posted February 17, 2013 Trying some Weller's tonight...
MnMWC Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 Having some Balvenie 12 YR Doublewood with a VR Unico... good pairing.
Schumi5 Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 Cracked a new bottle of one of my all time favs...Laphroaig QC. Bring on the peat!
Lotusguy Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 Finished the remainder of my Jameson 18. Quite good for a blend, but not worth the asking price (and at only 40%, those cheapskates )
khomeinist Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 Large bottle of Chimay Blue down. Clynelish Distillers Edition on deck.
headstand Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 The Balvenie 12 Double Wood w/ splash of water. Now to rummage through the cigar bin. Tomorrow is a holiday in these parts - could be a pleasant evening!
papatrips Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 Bourbon night.....Woodford's Reserve then maybe some Buffalo Trace.
Colt45 Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 2010 Kermit Lynch Cotes Du Rhone - excellent.
Lotusguy Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 Bruichladdich "The Laddie" 10 - got to pick up another bottle STAT. Then Ardbeg Corryvreckan - Holy Peat, Batman!!! - Awesome!!!
Lotusguy Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 Wow. Talk about the different ends of the spectrum! If you can, and you really like the Corry, try looking for a Aird Nam Beist (sp?). Been gone for a few years now and very hard to find, but takes the Corry by the balls and makes it his *****....lol Been looking for a bottle or 30 for a long time now... Sadly, the Beist is way above my price range I guess I could always get some Octomore but the levels of peat in that one are just silly - they just want to prove a point, I guess.
winelover Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 How doea the uigadal (or however it is spelt) compare with the corry? My Ardbeg experience is limited to the 10. I am inclined to go for the former as it is slightly cheaper than the corry which I think might be wasted on me.

I am inclined to go for the former as it is slightly cheaper than the corry which I think might be wasted on me. Uigeadal has 10% sherry casks in the vatting, Corryvreckan is 100% (or almost that) Bourbon matured - the first being rounder and with a more civilized depth, the latter perhaps more "untamed". Then again, with limited bottlings like these there can be a difference from one batch to the next... Cheers, Alex
sengjc Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 If you like some sweetness to your smoky Islays, try the Galileo. It's quite reasonably priced too.
winelover Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 Thanks for the above help. I enjoy Scotch, but have only recently developed a fascination. I am planning on my acquisitions, and when funds allow I am going to be starting my collection with the following: Bruichladdich - the Laddie Ten, Glendronach - 15 yo revival, Springbank - either the 12 yo cask strength or 15 yo (not sure yet), and Glenlivet Nadurra 16 yo. The common theme running throughout is that I like craft products. I am also partial to peated whisky having enjoyed the Laphroaig QC last year, and I think if I go for peat again soon, it will be for the Ardbeg Uigeadal (albeit sherried). Kind regards G
Joker Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 Usually have scotch with my cigars, but of late have been getting into the rums, partcularly Matusalem Gran Reserva 15 Smooth rum with light sweet spice undertones Very enjoyable

Personally, I think the Galileo is anything but reasonably priced - it's only 12Y old and costs almost double than the Uigeadail in my neck of the woods (and even more in other regions).
MattW Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 Enjoying some Havana Club Anejo Reserva tonight, very smooth, but also very tasty!
Colt45 Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 2010 Cascina Ballarin Cino Langhe Rosso - What's not to love....
maverickdrinker Posted March 2, 2013 Author Posted March 2, 2013 last night: Balvenie Portwood 21 and Ardbeg Uigeadail tonight: Wellers
