fokker4me Posted April 25, 2015 Posted April 25, 2015 Worth the price? Yes when the price was $79.00 a bottle. Not the inflated markup. 1
JohnS Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 Worth the price? Yes when the price was $79.00 a bottle. Not the inflated markup. I'd love to sample some Pappy Van Winkle...I'm drooling here! Oh well, one day.
sengjc Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 Kavalan Solist Ex-Bourbon Cask. Rather muted bouquet as is typical for bourbon cask finished malts but the palate is impressively multidimensional, a fruit and malt duet with oak and vanilla. A very nice and clean malt whisky with the malt and fruit taking centre stage, and finally the malt, at the finish - pure and resonating. Hardly any heat at all with a mild oily mouthfeel and a little spicy prickle at the back of the palate. The dark horse of the Solist series that lives in the shadow of the more renowned Sherry Cask and Vinho Barrique variants but for those that back this underdog, you may well be pleasantly surprised with the payback. 2
shlomo Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 Some overrated blended **** by the fire. So stop smoking NCs... 1
westg Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 Bacardi 8 Old-fashioned cocktail. 2015-04-24 20.31.05~2.jpg Don't really hear much about Bacardi 8...i really like it... 2
Guest rob Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 Bunnahbhain 12. Really is a great all rounder. Really satisfying, without having to think to long and hard about it.
TM-US Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 Worth the price? Not at all. Not a bad rye, but nothing that special. I definitely would not pay the secondary price for it.Rittenhouse 21, on the other hand, is nearly worth the secondary price. 1
JohnS Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 Don't really hear much about Bacardi 8...i really like it... Same here. I'm enjoying it lately now and then with Coke or with Sugar Syrup and Bitters in an Old-fashioned Cocktail.
Onelove Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 Don't really hear much about Bacardi 8...i really like it... Bacardi 8 and Appleton 12 are my two everydayers. Not ashamed to say I slip Bundy and Sailor Jerry in aswell now and then. 1
Onelove Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 Regarding this thread specifically today : PC peat project islay single malt and Bowmore 12. Heading to the poolhouse now with an RA Sup and Appleton 12.
sengjc Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 Glenmorangie Tusail. In my honest opinion, it's like an amped up version of the Glenmorangie the Original Ten Years old with an interesting nutty aftertaste. It is more oily on the mouthfeel too. Well made but doesn't appear to deliver in comparison to the others in the Private Edition series. In Australia, considering that the Signet can be had for a little more - my recommendation would be to go that. One for the collectors. As for me, this marks the second special edition Glenmorangie that does not excite as much as anticipated - the other being the Taghta. 1
SmittyinAZ Posted April 29, 2015 Posted April 29, 2015 Nothing fancy and not worth uploading a pic, just finished work and cracked open a Sierra Nevada Torpedo IPA. YUM! Scotch to come later with a tasty stick. 1
TM-US Posted May 2, 2015 Posted May 2, 2015 Thanks for the review. After having tried the Taghta and several other expressions from Glenmorangie, I will stick to the original 10 and Nectar D'or. I didn't like the Signet, the 25, or the 18. Glenmorangie Tusail.
