SofaKing Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 Enjoying a mystery stick from a recent pass and some Zaya rum neat with a vanilla bean as a stirring stick. Really brings out some flavor surprisingly...wife is making home made cake and I decided to experiment and use the scraped bean she used. 1
TM-US Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 Broke out some unusual bottles for a friend's birthday. 1989 Bowmore 16 in bourbon casks and a 2004 bottled Ardbeg Uigeadail. Very interesting, both of them. The Bowmore didn't taste anything like Bowmore- fruity like Juicy Fruit gum, but with an odd, kind of chalky, salty finish. Very good, but a bit odd. The 2004 Ardbeg was awesome- the heavy sherry influence that I've read about in older bottles of this stuff is definitely true. The ride ended in about 2010, from what I read. This stuff is heavily sherried and has a wonderful burnt caramel aroma and finish. I'm glad I stocked up. The current bottling is much thinner in taste and the sherry influence is not as strong. 3
TM-US Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 Another epic night. Longmorn 25, Highland Park Dark Origins, Balvenie 15 sherry cask, Ardbeg Uigeadail and some Zacapa XO poured over some delicious Jewish apple cake. 2
