PapaDisco Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 Most of us with Rollagas lighters turn them upside down in order to fill them. It's what the instructions suggest; it's easy (what with the flat top and all), and seems intuitive. But would it be better to fill the lighter right side up and with the top open? Butane is heavier than air, so filling the lighter right side up would allow any excess air to purge out of the outlet valve as you fill the lighter with higher pressure butane, no? Or is it all too turbulent for this to make any difference at all?
PapaDisco Posted May 4, 2015 Author Posted May 4, 2015 I fill every lighter upside down. Never any issues. So far, so good for me too, but I read about guys saying you have to purge the lighter every so often to be able to fill it to its maximum. Personally haven't experienced that, and I would assume that an empty lighter would simply have a tank full of air at 15 psi, which would mix with the butane partial pressure to partial pressure and that would be it. Not sure that you really can 'blow the air' out of it, but others seem to think so.
Deodato Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 Sorry to thread-jack PapaDisco, but I've been coveting a Rollagas because they're so great looking. A few questions: Can you still buy them new? Are there premier sources? Is it important to get the cigar-style flame?
Hunter1974 Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 I always fill mine upside down I and turn my full valve all the way down on the - side closing the valve I bought a neat little tool called the BUTANE SCREW THING yes thats the name and I love it !

I have never seen a cigar flame on them - I think that's only on Duponts. 1
CaptainQuintero Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 I've always had the refill can pointing down, I've assumed otherwise you will just be shooting air into the lighter opposed to using the air to push butane into the lighter
