A question that floated into my mind.

Was curious if anyone here works (or has worked) in the cigar industry (nc/cc)

PB...mate, I'd imagine in Australia, with the war the Government wages on the tobacco industry, that work in the cigar industry is incredibly hard. I know Norm and Pauline at Bogart's thought so when they recently closed their doors (after 16 years), not to mention Sol Levy's who also closed down in Sydney after over 100 years in business.

Are there any tobacco shops left in Australia ?

Aside from cigarette retailers I think there are 4 or 5 that specialise in cigars or pipe tobacco

Great question! I know I've seen at least one from their posts here. I've considered it in my area, but our online options are very difficult to compete with as they don't have to add local taxes. Maybe if Cuban cigars become legal here, Rob can hook me up early and take a crack at it!

You guys can compare LCDH's when you catch up. In relation to the original topic, Simon I noticed on your blog some videos of cigar tasting events....is that obviously linked to your role? Tom, does your LCDH do similar events?

Yes as a BUYER ??

I work at the LCDH here in Toronto.

How does one land a job like that?

I've always wondered what cigar stores look for when searching for staff

in my neighboring state Minnesota where they can still have smoking in cigar bars seems most of the staff is part time people with lots of passion for cigars!

John, yes part of my role, gold tournament, sales, newsletters along with the web/social medias/etc aspect of everything. I am back to full time school since September so I also pick up a few work hours in our lounge/bar over the weekend. We are lucky to have a grand fathered lounge bar to smoke indoor!

We do not do these events as we are not allowed to smoke indoors at the LCDH here in Toronto. In fact you are not allowed to smoke indoors anywhere in Toronto.

except in your own home (unless you live in a smoke-free rental/condo building) and don't mind smoking in your home...but I'm sure they will make that illegal soon too
