For me there was really no early "POW" cigar - it was, and continues to be, a process.

The first real Cuban cigar that I smoked was a BRC. I was hooked. It was the first really excellent cigar I had ever smoked. I thought that was smoking excellent cigars before that day, but was quickl

When I was 18 my father brought back a 5 pack of Monte 4's from London on a business trip... Still remember it 18 years later.

My first cigar ever got me hooked.

A RyJ cedro, but I forget what number. I bought it in a B&M in Victoria B.C. in the early 90's to one-up my homies with their "trying to look cool" purchases of cigarettes. I liked the feel, the look, and really liked the mild buzz, as well as the disgusted and strange looks I got from passers by. I frequented that B&M for a few years whenever the occasion called for a good smoke

RASCC. After smoking one I couldn't believe the taste in these little guys! Since then I never looked back. Currently I don't smoke nc's, except one. Tatuaje cabiugan. I think that's how you spell it. I smoked a Lots a while back, what was I thinking. Very one dimensional, and strong. To each his own I guess. People say Cuban cigars are "hype". I've gotta disagree. They're all about taste!

My first two CC's were a Epi 2 and Monte 2 which were both disappointing. Looking back, one was over humidified and the other not allowed to rest in the correct conditions long enough. The third time was a charm, a ULA BPC. Still remember that cigar.

After a few disappointments with young, over humidified Cuban cigars, I got a HOYO DC that made me a believer. Probably 2001.

Golfing buddy got me smoking stogies.

Spent a year or so discovering NC's. Settled on Padron and Liga Privada.

Then gambled on an internet purchase.

Box of CoRo's.

Been hooked ever since.

The RASS. Still without a doubt one of the finest Habanas made. After that there was no going back.

Epicure No. 2 won me over

I was in the "non-Cubans are just as good, if not better than Cubans" camp up until a good friend shared a Monte #2 a year or so ago....now I can't go back. :)

Montcristo #3 , and Hoyo De Monterrey Churchill, which was discontinued some years ago.

Partagas Coronas Juniors Tubos started it, and than Monte #2 finished the job

Punch Punch. I was in Switzerland in 1988 and thought I would have a cigar. I was 17 and traveling without the parents. Loved it. It wasn't until college that I started smoking regular, but I was hooked.

I got in on a box split here for a 5er of Upmann Mag 46's, since smoking that one cigar It's been a whirlwind of cigar spending.

Two Hoyo Epicure # singles so I don't know the box code or year but they were the best cigars I've ever had, period. Pure honey, plum/date pudding cake, burnt sugarcane and toffee.....I just can't say enough about them really. I almost wish now that I hadn't experienced them because I haven't had anything since that's even comes close although I've got 3 boxes of this cigar that I still haven't touched yet. But these 2 cigars opened my eyes to what really good cuban tobacco, blended properly could smoke/taste like and I've been on a search eversince that time almost 10 years ago, having spent tthousands of dollars in doing so too.

My first Cuban cigar was given to me by a friend at a wine party. He told me it was Cuban, but for the life of me I don't remember what marca it was. The band was red and I think it was a Robusto (wasn't into cigars then). It was so smooth and delicious I was hooked soon afterwards.

My first experience with Cuban cigars through my own research and purchase was the Partagas Serie P No. 2. I was not impressed to say the least. I remember thinking to myself, "maybe these Cuban cigars aren't all they're made to seem." However, I bought some Montecristo Petit Edmundos, mostly because a 10 box was cheap, and after smoking my first one I was hooked. If you are a fisherman you could say the Monte PE was what got me on the line, but a different cigar "set" the hook. My first H. Upmann No. 2 was a mind blowing experience. The weight of the smoke, the flavors of the cigar and the complexity of the blend were eye opening. No NC I had smoked before came even close. Thankfully, over the past 5+ years I have discovered my experience with the Upmann and Monte were not isolated and the norm vs the exception. Having come from the NC world it was the other way around with the La Flor Dominicana, My Father etc.

RyJ tubo ,,,,,,,,veiny,green,barnyardy aroma.............sensational.

This was mid 80s,probably 12 years after I started cigars.

Bought a box of Hoyo maduro Rothschildes (50) in the early 70s.It had a sticker inside, "Made with Havana Tobacco ".

Cost was $17.50 plus tax............

Also smoked a Canary Islands cigar called Vencedor,I think in the late 70s they were $31.00 a box of 25,looking back I am convinced they had Cuban tobacco in them.

The Montecristo #2 caught my attention to cigars in general. But Cuban wise, it was all Ramon Allones. The Celestiales Finos really sparked my interest, but the Specially Selected cemented it. Could've been ruined though with all of the fake Cohibas the bastard cigar shop owner was selling me as a new smoker.

Cohiba 1966 EL 2011

The Monte on the left is the culprit.

Burned it on the balcony while cruising along Roatan.

The box of BPC hidden in my bag sealed the deal.
