For me there was really no early "POW" cigar - it was, and continues to be, a process.

The first real Cuban cigar that I smoked was a BRC. I was hooked. It was the first really excellent cigar I had ever smoked. I thought that was smoking excellent cigars before that day, but was quickl

When I was 18 my father brought back a 5 pack of Monte 4's from London on a business trip... Still remember it 18 years later.

1995, RyJ no 1 tubos. The grey aluminium tube, Made in Havana, Cuba, the excitement of tasting a real cuban cigar, like a relic from a better past, like Astrud Gilberto softly singing Girl from Ipanema. And then the full, strong taste. And the lightheadedness.

I thought that was smoking excellent cigars before that day, but was quickly sobered by that days experience! I rapidly became that stuck up guy that only smokes Cuban cigars.

I have never really cared what label has been placed on me, either inside or outside the cigar community!

A Montecristo No.1 gifted by my brother-in-law. It was smooth, mild, cocoa and cream all-in-one! I was blown away by the subtle flavours and from then I was hooked...fishing.gif

My hook was actually 2 cigars. My very first Cubans -RASS immediately followed by a PSD4. So damn good. I spent the next hour or so spinning with nicotine sickness, but oh so worth it.

I had to think for a bit on your question and I loved Cuban cigars from the get go, but it was the short that I loved and smoked through a couple 50 cabs of them along with D4s, Coro and BBF. I couldn't belive the flavor in such a tiny cigar. So yeah the Partagas Short was my first love. I'm pretty sure 50 cabs were less than or equal to about $3.49 a stick at the time.

1985, my first trip to Hong Kong. My Dad was there too and he took us to Hugo's at the old Hyatt Regency Kowloon for dinner. After we ate a girl came around offering the gents a complimentary Cuban cigar. Looking back, it was merely a small MM, but at the time it was the finest cigar I'd ever smoked... and in the finest of company. Up 'til then most of my cigar smoking was little dry-cured numbers (thought I looked like Clint Eastwood smoking those Braniff #2's). By comparison, that MM Cuban was the epitomy of excellence... one cigar I'll never forget (though I'm still trying to figure out exactly what it was).
