All staged to pump up ratings and hype I think. Just like the show, everything controversial is carefully scripted and assessed by producers before airing.

Jonathan Ross was dumped from the bbc after that over radio prank thing, if any of the things Clarkson had said or done over the years had been on his own volition he would have been gone a long time ago.

This is the top and bottom of it! One viewing of the "there's a slope on it" clip demonstrates clearly that an idea has been conceived, planned, scripted and then executed. All very carefully done and all very contrived.......and I think this "man of the people" image is a bunch of crap too! This is the man who asserted that "striking public sector workers should be shot"!

Probably black people aren't overly happy about being referred to as slaves/less than human which the N word essentially means. Jewish people probably wouldn't be overly happy if they were referred t

Clarkson is a bastion of hope, a beakin of light. He's a man of the people and a voice of yesteryear. He's antics, tongue in cheek larikanism and racist jibes are all but white washed and sterilized f

you do realise you are saying you support racism? because clarkson, as funny an entertaining as he often is, is also deeply and offensively racist. if a racist is the beacon of light or bastion of h

I think with more time and patients and perhaps the same drink in our glasses Ken we could find a happy middle-ground of understanding on this. There are no white hoods under my bed but I'm just as happy to laugh at a joke in good humor at the guys wearing them as the guys they victimize, I'm not supporting or condoning either, And I'm not about to join a rally and tell tales or jokes in a way that purposely or directly defames or harms a person or group of people.. But ****.. If a joke about a minority or stereotype or even a majority nails it.. I'm laughing.

If a joke about a minority or stereotype or even a majority nails it.. I'm laughing.

isn't that just another way of supporting it?

As entertaining as I find Clarkson on Top Gear, I'm tired of his act. He seems to be a miserable, racist berk, and it's time for the BBC to cut ties with him. If that means the end of Top Gear, so be it. This is not political correctness run amok, rather an insufferable, lousy excuse for a human being unwilling to show even the smallest bit of respect for anyone around him.

That said, I'm sure we haven't seen the last of him.

And I think he's like this because he KNOWS how important he and the Top Gear show is for the BBC so he takes these opportunities to be a jerk knowing he will get away with warnings. But in this instance he has been suspended.

I also must agree, kind smells like a little stunt IMO and those episodes which haven't been aired WILL eventually be aired with all this hype around it.

Really depends on personal boundaries and sense of humor I believe.. If somebody is saying something in a time or place or targetting somebody in a way that is in that instance insensitive.. Chances are I'm not going to find it funny.. Things get even more complicated when it comes down to timing I suppose.. But at the end of the day.. Hat off to somebody who's willing to have a laugh at the world or poke fun at it or incite a bit of passion in people when everybody else is so fearfully gaffed. Like I'd said earlier.. I don't necissarily agree or support everything the man says.. Hell I'd be impossible for me to have heard all of it I'm certainly not an avid watcher of any of his shows.. But I've seen enough to know he often gets me to laugh and he's quick off the mark with his quips. I appreciate seeing that between all the other brain numbing bullshit. Heck.. In the last 6 years when I've actually lived by myself or had my own area with a TV its never even been connected to TV.. only ever used as a media centre.. I can't sit through 10 minutes of the crap on TV nowdays without feeling restless or angry about something. I either feel like I'm getting stupider or the russians or extremesists are getting closer. Flip on to somebody with a nerve and some peace of mind again and we can all of a sudden laugh about it all.

Can't say I feel anymore a rascist for laughing at a joke I don't find in poor company, timing or taste than I feel like I'm supporting terrorism being forced into buying all my food Halal certified at the supermarket.. But if thats how it is I guess I'll walk my white hood and black flag with pride (In jest i assure you Ken, No aggressive undertone here. As difficult as it is to define or even sometimes defend a sense of humor opinions etc in the way things are going I've enjoyed the discussion here)

Top Gear will implode if he leaves. What will we have left? American Top Gear?? Like those guys but they are junior league. All this because some guy told a grown man he cant have a steak and pressed the issue.

To be fair if he sparked out his boss it's a deserved sacking, no one really knows what happened that's all.

If he did then I don't really want my taxes paying his wages.

If he does leave it will hopefully be a massive nail in bbc's forced subscription payments

The whole show will just move and be identical on Sky anyway, which is owned by Murdoch so you'll get the new show in the US

In this case, yes Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May are much bigger than the entire BBC.

Certainly not that institution.

I know the BBC may not be what it was in its heyday, but it's ridiculous to think they need to pander to his childish behavior.

I've just heard he punched someone in the face over the 'steak fracas' this morning. I applaud the BBC for drawing the line over physical assault. Clarkson should be content that the producer has not filed criminal charges. Of course, Top Gear will not be the same.

Posted

I don't understand anyone supporting any actor using physical violence to vent their frustration (or anyone else for that matter). I used to watch the show, but was unaware of his behavior. If everything being reported is accurate, he completely deserves to get canned. Do any of you like to hit your coworkers when you don't get your bagel with cream cheese??? The article states that clarkson himself reported the incident after attempting to apologize (probably after regretting his costly behavior).

Agreed. And I LOVE this show.

He left the BBC with no choice but to drop him.

Ok not a publicity stunt! biggrin.png

Yeah apparently the producer drove himself to hospital after and needed stitches.

Not a leg to stand on.

Police have got involved and asked the BBC for information

Yes, the BBC were left with no choice.

IMO the BBC is doing what any good employer should be doing in a case where one employee assaults another. The notion that JC is a notable and popular host should have nothing to do with it. If you don't deal with him the way you would a BBC staffer on a lower rung on the ladder you lose some legitimacy as an employer. In all fairness, you have to follow the rules across the board. Allowing him to continue unfettered sends the message that there's a divide.

After covering up Jimmy Saville, the recent Tony Hall and Rolf Harris stuff, the BBC had no choice on top of the usual assault claim.

I think the general public's patience with the BBC is worn out as it is

Yea. I suppose bbc had the let him go. Even if it means the end of top gear (imo). Can't chose profits over doing the right thing. But the could aired the last few episodes. Didn't really understand that. Can someone me fill me in?

Not the least bit surprised. I don't think either of them would want to be involved with whatever the next iteration of TG will be. It won't be TG anymore... time to move on to other things.

Cheers,
