ogus Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 So I try this the hot NC, rated #3 in the world stick, and it tastes like a second of PSD4. No wonder its popularity, not the typical muddy cigar coming outside Cuba today, more like a decent Cuban. Haven't had a decent spicy non Cuban since the 90's. Does this cigar remind you of a peppery Partagas?
TheLiquidGator Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 Did you mean to say- not the typical muddy cigar coming outside of Hond. or Nic.?
fabes Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 I've had the minutos size. Tasted nothing like a Partagas. More like an el principe with loads of plum. I thought it was worth a revisit as it was an interesting and complex cigar.
ogus Posted March 13, 2015 Author Posted March 13, 2015 Did you mean to say- not the typical muddy cigar coming outside of Hond. or Nic.? Certainly the Doms went downhill, those you mention have more body but not big on nuance
TheLiquidGator Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Certainly the Doms went downhill, those you mention have more body but not big on nuance Hond. cigars take like muddy dirty ashtrays to me. Nics are better and some are pretty good. I do like many Illusione cigars, certainly the Roths.
SofaKing Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Illusione makes some nice sticks, I have enjoyed the Epernay line and some of the earlier ecj series.
meatball41 Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 love the epernay and rothschildes. I've only had one amor de fumar though that I bought at my local B&M and I was underwhelmed. I'm pretty sure it was overhumidified. I plan on revisiting though due to the rave reviews, next time I will let it rest a couple months and maybe dry box after that.
godpheonix Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 i got a box of the 20th eccj on its way! love the epernay line and i think Don Giolito and Litto gomez are making exceptional blends!
riazp Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Illusione is one of the few NC brands that i still enjoy smoking
Habana Mike Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Looks like a cigar I might enjoy, I'll have to give it a shot! Green/red are my preferences/dislikes and gold is how the analysts perceived the cigar
egoo33 Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 i had the smallest one very wood solid offering but wouldnt go out of my way for it
Hiram2011 Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Liked the illusione sticks I've tried, epernay and rothchildes. Think I have a armor de fumar or two in the humidor. May need to try one.
backslide Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 IMHO they taste nothing like a Cuban, they have their own great thing going on. Illusione is one of my favorite cigar brands cc or nc.
Styler Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 I find your comment about not being able to find spicy NCs a bit strange. I can struggle to find NCs that have anything else but spice!
dflan82 Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Illusione is one of the few NC brands that i still enjoy smoking I second this comment. Tried and liked the fume de'amore Clementes and liked it enough to buy a few more. Guys have been buying these up like crazy at my local shop 1
Borgy Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Asylum 4x44 2012 is great peppery stick one of my go to sticks.
Quint Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Illussione is one of, if not, the best NC there is IMO. Love the 88's, the #2's are excellent, and the f9's are also excellent. I also love the Epernay line they put out, somewhat milder than Illusiones but still tasty. They actually have a complexity to them not just in your face tobacco. 1

Just found a cigar if I had to buy locally I might do so again. Hard to find a good habanos around here for some reason.

Maybe my pallet is fried from pipe smoking or maybe I need to take you in the tardis to show you cigars from 25 years ago to compare and yes I can find spice in a partagas or trinidad today
ogus Posted March 13, 2015 Author Posted March 13, 2015 Asylum 4x44 2012 is great peppery stick one of my go to sticks. I will try this on you 'rec
laficion Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Dear friends, Illussione and Tatuajes are the only two I go for In N.C.'s,They are a change In pace cigar . Guy 1
Habana Mike Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Interesting that I just reviewed this cigar blind. The Viejo Robusto model. Rated it pretty highly. Leather, nuts, chocolate and pepper were predominant. Nice complexity and balance but didn't evolve significantly until the final third.
Hafner32 Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 The eccj 20th is worth a shot, too. I think this is a slammer of a cigar. I bought a 5 pack, liked it so much, went and grabbed 3 of the 15ct cabs. Limited production so probably won't be around much longer but I think it has some legs to get even better over the next few years. I know that those who still have some of the eccj 15th are saying that they are smoking fantastic right now 1
