Curious to hear what people's expieriences have been with the recent production Trinidads. I've been wanting to restock my reyes and coloniales but concerned that quality hasnt been there. Dont want to buy these blind, but havent seen any offerings by Rob, which further makes me think quality hasnt returned.

Any opinions?

The most frustrating Marque for me to pick and has been for 5-6 years at least.

Quality is all over the place and mostly bog average at best. You still come across some very good individual boxes of Reyes/Coloniales/Fundadores but there really is no such thing as a seam from a great mastercase.

The problem is the poor to average quality of wrappers (in the main) followed by some rampant underfilling in the Fundadores.

if you are after the odd good box, it is best to e-mail me direct and I will look for that specific box in the warehouse. It is hard to put them up on the 24;24 when I only have a handful of good boxes. The 24;24 is reserved for what i would spend my own coin on and there has to be some depth in the quantity of offerings.

Rob obviously sees more cigars than me, but my last 4 boxes of Reyes (3 in the past year) have been perfect. In fact finding a wonky box of Reyes has never happened to me.

Can't help with colonials.

That is an excellent strike rate ok.gif

I would be batting 20% at best of acceptable Reyes.

I smoked a Trinidad Coloniales SUE 14 on Sunday. The cigar was box dried and pretty dry. Anyway, the smoking experience was excellent! I really enjoyed the vanilla and honey flavours, not overly complex but not one dimensional by any means. The smoke was abundant and creamy. I think this young cigar benifited greatly from being box dried.

I have smoked a Trinidad Reyes LUM 13 about 3 months ago. Good construction, and burn. Flavours were rather muted and not complex. Good volume of smoke though. I remember thinking that these cigars needed to age more. This cigar was not box dried so maybe I should try it again dry.

I've been smoking Trinidad Reyes TAS 12 for the last year. There's something wrong with this box. The cigars are DARK with little to no sheen. Reminds me of a Secretos Maduro. The flavour profile is not my cup of tea. Smokes like a Limited Edition and definetly does not taste like a Trinidad. Avoid the TAS box code in Trinidad, these are NOT Trinidad!

I'm about half way through a box of Trinidad Coloniales MSE 11. These cigars were ok young, nice flavours but not complex at all. After having aged somewhat now the typical Trinidad flavours of vanilla, honey and espresso are coming through nicely. Quite enjoyable smoke and I'm always looking forward to the next one.

I really feel that Trinidad needs to age 3-5 years before they become really enjoyable. I really appreciate the Trinidad flavour profile so it is a brand that I don't mind investing in and letting age. I buy them blind and usually it's not a problem. (except for that damn TAS box)

How have they looked Shlomo? Ive had a few reyes that looked beat to hell but smoked great.

I agree Robo that these benifit from a little dry boxing. I find most CCs do but these particullary so. I had a box of reyes from MSE May11 that were solid but not great. Prolly got to them a little sooner then i should have, but still enjoyable.

Had a Reyes the other night from a 2010 box which has been sleeping, was pretty much perfect, certainly no complaints about the construction or flavours. I too have a MSE 11 box of the Coloniales, not tryed one for a while as was keen to let the box rest at my last time of sampling.

Rob - have you had sight yet of the new Vigia? Any thoughts on it yet (other than too short / too fat)?

I had a Reyes from a box July 2014 about a week ago and it was really good. I can't wait to get back to that one again.

They looked fine. Nothing special, nothing ugly. One of the best cigars I have ever smoked wa sa Reyes last winter on my deck with a good friend.

Guess, I must be super lucky with Reyes

All over the place but for what it's worth my wife is 1/3 rd through a 2014 box of Reyes that has been to her liking.

Not too many problems with Reyes or Coloniales here, but a couple of bad experiences has made me shy away from buying current Fundadores...dark wrappers, erratic fill, and no cream or honey on the finish.

current Fundadores? 2012-1214, by chance?

Do you have the box code for the dark Fundadores?

Thx,

Rob

I have had two boxes of Reyes. One was great and oily, and the other was trash. Wrappers were pale and no sheen to them. I literally chain smoked that box. My friend bought a blind box of coloniales and those too were of bleh quality. Don't buy Trini blind right now imo

Such a shame IMO Fundadors use to be one of the finest cigars you could get. A true connoisseurs cigar wonder flavor profile and construction.

I'm a little late to this discussion but I have had some (now discontinued) Robusto Extras and finally smoked one the other day. Tremendously disappointed. Had one of the more pale wrappers that some of you mentioned, so probably should have expected it. I have a box of Vigia that are dark and beautiful- haven't and won't touch them for a long while. I hope they'll be great.
