Fools+Money = Parted

It's readily available all over the place again.

In Asia and now North America. Not elsewhere, unfortunately, for those who enjoyed it.

It was discontinued, yes - but the reason you're finding it is the reason they cut it - poor sales. As a result, it can still be found somewhat easily. I like it better than most of the JW Blends, t

Ah yes - I forgot our poor Ozzie brethren.

Good man! That's a good price for the Platinum. I havn't tried that one yet. I liked the 18yr Gold - not the new 15 year Gold. Platinum replaced the 18yr Gold.....

Very frustrating! I'd like a bottle just to try, but I'm certainly not paying 6 or 7 times the sticker price for it.

Where are you located? JW Green is easy to find around here.

I would say that if you are not a JW fan, I don't know if you'd like this stuff. I think the green label is a bit harsh. Black is much smoother, and Gold is pretty nice. I lament the fact that it is bottled at 40%. It needs to be at least 43-45%.

Sydney, Australia. Perhaps I should try the more readily available stuff first so I know whether or not to jump on it if a reasonably priced opportunity comes up.

I still see it in stores too. I had Johnny green for the first time in the Bahamas back in 1999. It blew my mind. Couldn't find it in the states for years. Finally I did. Spent my hard earned college coin on it and was utterly disappointed.

IMO, much better single malts out there.

Out of all the JW, I loved the green the most - Loved the smoky flavour and it was rather smooth.

I was unaware it had been discontinued, admittedly, I haven't purchased a bottle in a couple years as I much prefer single malts.

On close inspection, it appears that the 700ml Aussie version appears to use the same flat based squarish bottle as those used for the current bottlings of the Johnnie Walker Blue Label.

I have put a piece of paper underneath to show the colour of the contents.

Surprisingly it appears to have a cork closure.

Interesting, I thought it would have the same plastic screw cap closure as the North American 750ml release.

The only obvious indicator that this would be the new 2015 bottling release would be the smallish age statement label at the bottle's base - it is much smaller in comparison to the past bottlings after the SWA ruling on the term 'vatted malt' and is missing the statement: "the art of pure malt" & the "walking man" logo.

For posterity, I have included the barcode and the glass etched bottling lot code:

Are these a regular production re-release in Australia sengjc, or a limited release?

I'm not sure John.

There is no indication on the bottle or packaging to indicate if it is a limited release or if it is a special release for the 10 year anniversary of the Green Label despite the available information on the web that indicates otherwise.

All I can be sure of is that it is not from the previous bottlings prior to its discontinuation because of the changes to the labels on the bottles.

Okay...I've just found a link to a Johnnie Walker Australia Facebook post that this is a limited release to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the 2005 release in Australia. They claim it will be available in stores at the end of May 2015, whereas I've read other stockists will have it by the end of June.

Not yet - planning on opening one when I next meet up with a mate who has two unopened bottles of the previous batch release.

I got mine from Vintage Cellars Newcastle and they were $69 a pop.

They have a special on at the moment as well, buy 2 single malts and get 20% off.

It was an expensive trip inside
