I tried searching for a similar topic, but could not find one. Would anyone be willing to give a brief, general description of flavor profiles from the popular marcas? Monte, Cohiba, Bolivar, Partagas, Juan Lopez, RA, R&J, Dip, and Upmann are the ones I am really looking for if that helps. Thanks in advance!

I WISH the maracas were distinctly different like that nowadays. IMO that thread should be preceded with the caveat "Prior to the Period of the Generic Cuban Cigar". No complaints here though...more and more cigars are now dumbed down to my heathen palate smile.png

Interesting. What would you give as the rough starting date for this period?

I call it BS. I was a teenager when I heard that for the first time. It's one of these myths people like rehashing when they chat in cigar shops.

current production is ... 2) less difference between MANY cigars that used to have a distinct identity,

Which ones? To me, many cigars that had a real character/ identity have been discontinued… RA 898, Punch SS1, SS2, RS11, Partagas corona and lonsdale, several ERDM, SP Molinos, etc.

A agree with Frank / SC - I call phooey as well. Not against you, but against that concept. I know Piggy chimes in from time to time and talks about the lack of brand identity - but he hasn't smoked any new regular stock in years anyways!!! ;):P

I for one still feel there is a true brand identity for each marca. While it can get muddied sometimes, I still taste those very distinct differences in various sticks regularly.
