PuroDan Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 Lately I have been smoking a ton of Habanos. I have noticed that I like the smaller ring gauge sticks anywhere from 40-46. To me, at least lately I have noticed more flavor in the smaller gauges. When I go to my local B&M I see guys with 70 gauge NC dog rockets hanging out of there mouths. Big gauges must be an American thing :-(. What are your preference's when it comes to ring gauge's and the flavor of the stick?
SmittyinAZ Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 I would agree the U.S NC smoker is in to larger ring guage cigars. I personally stick with 48-52 size although I just recently picked up a box of San Cristobal El Principe to give the slimmer sticks a try for a change.

I actually got screwed up as a screen door on a submarine two years ago drinking scotch and smoked one of the damn things It took me 6 hours And 11 minutes to finish .thats non stop I agree bigger and better. I like all kinds its according too how long I've got to enjoy it but I find myself liking robust petit corona and church hill can't really pick a favorite size but I promise its not 66x 10 inches lol 1

raymond5737 Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 IMHO, each cigar has a certain finite amount of flavor with complexities along the way. With NC's I have found that with a larger ring gauge, you get greater doses of those finite flavors in your mouth and most times a better cigar smoking experience. For me it is all about large doses of flavor, especially if it is a real good cigar. For some reason, with Cuban cigars, I don't seem to want/need as much smoke in my mouth to get the richness and texture of a great smoke. In other words, I can get equal and even better blasts of smoke from a Cohiba Lancero vs a Cohiba Siglo VI. Weird, but in a good way...

TonyAccardo Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 I think it was on that podshow "What Embargo" where Seth was saying that the Cohiba Robustos Supremos was actually closer, if not right at 60rg although it's described/advertised as 58rg. It's almost as if Habanos was a little apprehensive about releasing a true 60rg but in effect, released one anyways but advertise it as 58rg and see what the reaction was before they actually start putting out "true" 60+rg cigars. A temperature probe if you will of the market and it's acceptance. As an afterthought though, I prefer and have a majority of cigars that are 50rg and under but really all I care about is whether it's a good cigar or not, rg be damned. I'm glad I got a box of the Le Hoyo San Juan......wonderful cigar and very flavorful throughout with plenty of evolvement throughout. I can't imagine how good, complex, and dynamic these will be in 10 years?!?!?
