Habana Mike Posted February 28, 2015 Posted February 28, 2015 So, being a huge Whiskey/Whisky fan, leaning mostly toward Scots Single Malts of the Islay variety, I was turned on to the Teeling Irish by Rob Fox whilst in Havana last November. In particular the small batch rum cask expression http://teelingwhiskey.com/teeling-whiskeys/, Managed to now find this locally. Curious to know who else has had a chance to sample and hear your thoughts. I'm a pretty avid fan of the Bushmills but for me this blows it away by a kilometer or two. 1
AlohaStyle Posted February 28, 2015 Posted February 28, 2015 I too was turned onto Teeling by the Irish crew... good stuff.
Onelove Posted February 28, 2015 Posted February 28, 2015 Around the middle of last year I was looking online for a local supplier of flor de cana 18 or 21 to try, Teeling irish whiskey popped up because it's aged in ex flor de cana rum barrels. Mentioned it in a "what's in your glass" post in about July. I like irish whiskey and couldn't find the rum so I grabbed a few and it's now my go to whiskey. Prefer this to any anything but a good rum now and have put quite a few single malt scotch drinkers onto it too with no complaints. Didn't realise they had such an extensive range until I followed your link Mike but I've been wanting to try the poitin for a while. The local shop only stocks the small batch, poitin and single malt. Might need to grab one of each when I reload.
Bulldog4 Posted February 28, 2015 Posted February 28, 2015 hey mike he hooked me too i hhave both the small batch and the single grian i like the small batch little sweeter mostly from rum casks im sure

bolivr Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 By coincidence I got a bottle of the small batch about a month ago. I find it quite light in flavor, very refined and a nice change from the Islays I usually drink.
sengjc Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 I am not a fan from the one time I tried it at the Whisky Live 2014. Found it rather weird - like vodka with wood flavouring. Maybe it is just me. :/
free85 Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 I am a Red Breast fan... And so I have to find this and give it a try. Thank you for the heads up!
free85 Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 I grabbed a bottle of the Teeling last night. I enjoyed it, solid whiskey. I tried the rum cask finished variety and while you can tell it's a comparatively young spirit (would do with some age in my opinion) it's tasty. You get some chocolate and some other characteristics from the time it spent in the rum barrel. I'd compare it to The Balvenie Caribbean Cask. Price point is certainly right.
jazzboypro Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 Never had that brand, if you like Irish whiskey i can recommend Tullamore Dew 12, not expensive and very good
