Good afternoon all,

Has anyone smoked the 1966?

I'm interested in purchasing a box or two but am unsure of how/where to find..

Thanks in advance..

It's a fantastic cigar, but good luck finding any. Boxes are in the $700 range now.

Do they come out every year?

Thanks

No, they are an Edicion Limitada, which means they are of one particular year (in this case, 2011). No more are being made; what's out there is what's out there.

Ok.. Thanks... I found a box online and as you said $700 +++

IMO, a great cigar. I had one on vacation in London a year and half ago. I'm glad I smoked it.

IMO, they're too expensive. I'd much rather spend that coin on several boxes of other great cigars.

At $700 a box, yeah I don't know that I can justify it. I was lucky to pick up a couple boxes when prices weren't quite so high. I smoke one of them a year so hopefully they stay consistent over time. I have yet to notice a decline in them (some say that ELs have a low shelf life, I guess).

the new version of 1966 Edicion Limitada was released five minutes ago - 2014 Cohiba Robusto Suprema EL - different size, the same idea - maybe that is the one to try, before it hits 700+ a box in four years? potty.gif

How much was 1966 in its release? USD 350-400?

241 CUC in Cuba when they came out.

Can still be had for $550 in the secondary market.

I would suggest buying a 1966 and the new Robusto Supremo LE both to compare the two. Surely expensive when getting multiple boxes of but they are a treat when it comes to it. If you are looking for 1966 there are a decent number of sources

Cohiba Esplendido - $25 vs. 1966 - $50.

How do people who went deep on these cigars or recommend a purchase justify the huge price tag? Is it twice as good as an esplendido? I get the collectibility, flip-able in the future etc. and would like to concentrate on the cigars merits alone.

I've got 2 boxes currently (smoked through another in 2011) and they're great cigars. Worth the $500ish when they came out.

With boxes now costing $1000-$1500aud on the secondary market I can now say I'd rather have a box of this year's Cohiba EL or some psp esplindidos fresh from out host than hunting down a box of the 2011s

I didnt realize the correlation between the 1966 and the 2014 Supremo LE's. That might be a game changer for me, lol.

Supremos are too gimicky for me. Made for the USA kind of way. The 1966 is classy all the way

How does a standard production CoRo justify the price premium over a HU Conn 1 or PDSD4?

Or a Siglo1 over a Partagas Short?

Leo had made a comment early in this post about it, I was unaware of that information until I saw what he had said.

I believe it was more an "enlightened humoristic comment" than an actual info…
