CaptainQuintero Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 I have to admit I have virtually no experience with these, the coronation and petit coronation etc. They were machine made until the turn of the millennium and are now hand made. For those in the know, do the hand made versions taste the same as the old machine made? Or, with the deletion of all the hand made small punch cigars, have Punch petit coronas or similar blends simply been placed in the tubes and the name kept the same? It would be strange to use the exact same quality of materials for a machine made cigar in the 'new' hand made versions. In reality was the new hand made versions of these historically lower quality cigars essentially a completely different cigar?
PapaDisco Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 Funny, I was wondering the same about the Coronation as well and just today. I've never tried it and was toying with the idea of getting a box. My guess is that moving from machine to hand required a change from short to long filler? Don't rolling machines require short filler in order for the machine to distribute the fill evenly?
moryc Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 I actually have a box of Coronations on order and waiting to arrive. I tried these before and in my opinion they are not bad.

Just wondered if the new blends were essentially the same as the already produced small punch cigars, so the deletions of the corona, pc etc were not really a loss but more of a rebranding
JohnS Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 I've only taken to cigars as a hobby for six months but I can confidently say that I've been very happy with these...they are good value for a lower end cigar. They are not as flavoursome as a Bolivar or Partagas petit corona-vitola cigar, but I would say they are slightly less mild than a Montecristo No.4.
spicycorona Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 I had really good luck with a couple boxes of petite coronation tubes. They didn't hang around too long.
NSXCIGAR Posted December 24, 2015 Posted December 24, 2015 Just finished a 2014 Royal Coronation and it was excellent. Great to pretend I'm smoking a Punch corona! First third was classic Punch--strong wood and a bit of spice, second third settled a bit and the last third was best--great woody/tangy/spicy flavor balance. A solid 92/93 pointer. More consistent from start to finish than most of the 2014 Punch Punch I've had. Anyone considering picking some up, do it.
shlomo Posted December 24, 2015 Posted December 24, 2015 Since nobody bothered answering your question..... Coronations and petit coronations are ok in general, but not in the same universe as the petit corona, petit corona del punch, petit punch, etc....those deleted sticks had a general peanut butter, salty/sweet chewiness to them, while the coronation and petit coronation have tobacco and wood. 1

I concur completely. I miss the smaller Punch range very much, as well as many other deleted Punch vitolas. Punch probably had among the most variation in their one-time vast lineup. Hard to even imagine a brand with four grand coronas with four different profiles in it nowadays. I never liked the Coronations back then, preferring the Corona, PC, PCDP and TPC. Unfortunately, the Coronations are the only option now.
eswary Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 I've purchased both the coronations (2005-06 in green tubo, now silver/blue) and Punch Punch(2014) in the A/T options. I found the coronation back then to smoke great, aged even better. Certainly more spicy and woody. The Punch Punch i have, have been solid so far. Time will tell on these since this is my first box in AT. The wrapped sleeves of cedar inside each tubo IMO only adds to the aroma, because I don't taste a difference vs regular box options. They certainly have a better chance to be in better shape after aging for long periods of time in Tubos. I don't see any difference in quality in either Tubo size in mentioned.
