Ken Gargett Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 okay, not the obvious topic for a cigar forum but i hate doing it. fiddly, pain in the butt, time consuming. anyway, found this. and tried it. whatever you think of martha stewart, this is amazing. so quick and easy. did a heap this arvo. it works probably 90%+ of the time, not quite a 100%, but saves ages. http://www.marthastewart.com/932081/how-peel-garlic-easily#932081 2
LordAnubis Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 Can someone give me a brief step by step? I can't see videos with our internet connection.
Guest rob Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 Can someone give me a brief step by step? I can't see videos with our internet connection. Ken was watching Martha Stewart, and I took a deep breath and hoped the world would return to normal ASAP.
Ken Gargett Posted January 13, 2015 Author Posted January 13, 2015 no, i have never watched martha stewart ever. i so hate peeling garlic that i googled to see if an easy way and this came up. and wow, is it easy. mus, basically get two large-ish bowl, one slightly bigger than the other. put the whole bunch in the big one and then smash it with the base of the smaller one. then up turn the smaller one and put it over the garlic in the big one, forming a sort of enclosed ball with the two bowls. then shake and shake and shake as hard as you can for all you are worth. at least 90% of the cloves should be completely peeled. take out the skin etc and all is good.
LordAnubis Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 Ahhh wow, that's a good idea, kinda how I've got my peanut peeling operation going at the moment... I'll try it at some point. Cheers!
westg Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 At least you can say you heard about it on FOH MUS
Ryan Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 Nice trick. I rarely need to use more than 2 or 3 cloves for a meal. I've always put a clove on a chopping board, put the flat edge of a chef's knife on it then hit the the blade with the heel of my palm. The clove crushes slightly and the skin pops off, takes about 2 seconds. Similarly for breaking a head into cloves. A quick smack with the heel of the palm, with the head on a chopping board, will separate all the cloves. 1
LordAnubis Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 At least you can say you heard about it on FOH MUS Good point! I won't have to go through the shame of admitting I watch Martha Stewart. The shame!!!
ha1fway Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 Cut the end, smash with the flat of the knife, move on? 1
Bernardini Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 Use the flat of the knife myself, but thanks for this. If I ever need to cook with a copious amount of garlic (or kill a vampire) I will try it

Ken Gargett Posted January 13, 2015 Author Posted January 13, 2015 Cut the end, smash with the flat of the knife, move on? perfect for a single clove. this is for entire bulbs.

mk05 Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 She probably went to one of the garlic peeling processors where they just circle the things around a tumbler.
Jeremy Festa Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 I tried the bowl trick a little while ago. Exactly as it was here --> http://theawesomer.com/fast-garlic-peeling/126739/ And I can honestly say, nothing happened and I reverted to the old, cut and smash. Will have to try the jar trick.
jdo2110 Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 Gents, I cook with garlic almost every meal. The aforementioned methods can be great, but let me throw this out there. Peel off as many cloves as you want from your bulb and put them in the microwave for 5-10 seconds. Shells come right off without cooking the garlic. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
RickHendeson Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 Wow. Like other commenters, I always did the smash-with-the-knife bit. Big help.
PigFish Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 ...garlic has a peel? Learn something new everyday...! I always wondered how they got it to grow in the bag...! 2
Murri Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 ...garlic has a peel? Learn something new everyday...! I always wondered how they got it to grow in the bag...! I buy it in the bag also. Put it into several small jars, fill with olive oil, put one in the fridge and freeze the rest. Just scoop it out when needed. This way I also have garlic infused olive oil, very tasty.
Freefallguy Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 Ken, seriously, Martha Stewart?? As my youngest son would say, "Check your man card, at the door."
Maplepie Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 Thanks Ken. It's a good thing Sent from the Enigma via Tapatalk for BlackBerry.
