I agree. This is really an amazing cigar. Padron sells a number of less expensive cigars that are very good. My favorite is the Anniversario 1964 Maduro Principe (or any of the other 1964 Maduros, I h

I'm surprised to see the Opus X as often cited.

I have tried 3 sizes that were the most unbalanced, stupidly strong expensive cigars I've ever purchased, and I aged for 5 years a tin of the churchill size, only to find a cigar devoid of any specific flavor or interest… A modest Short Story is much tastier, doesn't kill my tastebuds and doesn't give me headache.

You forgot to mention that you can probably buy 3 Short Stories for the same price as one of those Opus Xs.

I am surprised that you would get a headache of a 5 YO Opus X. Funny. I actually bought one because I always equivicated A. Fuente with a mild smoke. When I lit up that first Opus X of the day, it would have knocked me on my arse if I didn't stop half way.

Wonder if that's what sells to the Yanks.........

Cigar Aficionado just listed 25 they suggest you try...since everybody swears they are rigged toward NC's, may as well give em a go smile.png

I don't trust CA at all. Since they show an obvious bias it makes me question the integrity of the whole list.

Haha I'm a yank that loves them :-)

Maybe try the angels share, much less power, nice subtle flavors throughout

Illusione Holy Lancero

Padron 1964, Padron 1926, Padron 45, Padron 80th, Padron 85, any of the Padron Anniversary lines. The Maduros are a but richer in my personal opinion.

Tatuaje Black Label Petite Lancero, Tatuaje El Triunfador Original Lancero, Tatuaje Brown Label Especiales

Nestor Miranda Special Selection Lancero Oscuro.

Davidoff Grand Cru lines.

Arturo Fuente Anejo 46, 49, 50 and of course no. 77 (shark). As everyone has emphasized you have to let these sit for a good while.

If you have tried Nicaraguan tobacco and like it then I can't speak highly enough about the Illusione Holy Lancero. Just let them sit for a bit to rest and you will be rewarded for it. Personally, I and thanks to some good friends - have worked through a box real fast. Ordered two more boxes just recently.

Merry Christmas all -

My short list:

Fuente Don Carlos #3 or Robustos - great Cameroon wrappers

Pardon Maduro 64's Monarcas - consistent but can be boring

Fuente 858 Sungrown - great QPR

Tatuaje Havana Cazadores - strongest of the bunch

I have to agree with the Tatuaje Havana Cazadores recommendation. A bit on the short side but a great rich cigar esp with an espresso or nice cafe cubano. So I second that recommendation.

Merry Xmas!!

Hey guys,

I'm buying a xikar hygrometer from a US site so I thought I would pick up a few NCs as well since I'm already paying for the shipping.

I wouldn't be surprised if you went through the same US company I did to get my Xikar XV V-Cutter. It came in a week!

There's a LOT of competition amongst US-based cigar vendors, so many of them will trip over each other to get you the best customer service at a fair price.

Lots of great suggestions here, I'd add my favorite - Tatuaje Nicaragua Petit Cazadores Reserva - as a choice as well with plenty of flavor for a smaller cigar (4" x 40). or try the CABAIGUAN Guapos, very tasty.

May have missed it, but Flor de las Antillas is a nice smoke, as is the San Lotano Oval by AJ Fernandez.

As previously stated, Tatuaje (I like the black label), AF Anejo, Liga Privada #9, Padron 1926 and AF Hemingway (Short Story, Best Seller, etc.) are all high quality NC smokes.

Seth's Humidor blog has good reviews and I agree with his ratings for a lot of NC. His top 25 for 2013 and earlier were good, but I haven't tried most of his 2014 recommendations.

Personally, I'm a sucker for Fuente (Casa Fuente, Opus, Hemingway(+m), Anejo). Hard to go wrong with one of the AF premium lines. Also a fan of L'Atelier 46 SS, EPC Short Run, MoW PA(m), 7-20-4, MUWAT BF, and LP9. Huge love for the Curivari Seleccion Privada as well as the Panacea/Flatbed (Red & Green) for recent stuff I've tried. Sorry, just a ton of good stuff out there.

Most of these I think have already been mentioned though, so I guess just a +1 for tl:dr?

+1 on the Tat. Have a cab resting. Not sure how long these wet pack are good for aging though?

If you're talking the Havana Cazadores, the oldest I've had were 5-6 years and they were still excellent and muy fuerte. Tat browns don't seem to fall flat like most NC after some resting time.

Bought a cab of the brown label in the wet pack, more for a curiosity than anything else. Good to hear they keep up for a few years. Plan on aging them for a good 5-7 years to see how they compare to a non-wet pack 5'er I picked up at the same time.

My only problem aging NC is I rarely know how old they are. They could have been delivered to the vendor the day I ordered or a year prior. Very few have box dates.

Yes, perhaps most NC manufacturers don't include a date because the smokes usually age so poorly.

Tat Brown's include a box date, as do those made by Illusione.
