rtrimbath Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 I understand that El Laguito is considered the premier factory in Cuba, but does that mean Cohibas rolled there are always better? Would a PE box of El Laguito Cohibas be preferable to an HQ /PSP box of Cohibas made at a different factory? Just curious, as I've only tried a non-El Laguito Cohiba.
shlomo Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Everything you mentioned in your post are just ways of taking less risk. El Laguito Cohiba does not guarantee anything. Neither does, PE, HQ or PSP. They are just a little less likely to be dog rockets. Still can happen though. 2

It is just been a fair while since El Laguito made much of anything else bar Behiike. Still El Laguito is considered the best factory in Cuba. Very well run, high level pf pride, great atmosphere. 3

tjhernandez34 Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Are there any Cohibas left that are rolled exclusively in El Laguito?
Maplepie Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Are there any Cohibas left that are rolled exclusively in El Laguito? Lanceros, I believe. Anyone confirm?
Habana Mike Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Are there any Cohibas left that are rolled exclusively in El Laguito? Behikes, at least for the time being..... Well, maybe not even those exclusively

Only one person can answer that question for you. "Preferable?" Same problem. The idea is to know what you like and then figure out how to get it. No short cuts here, try, fail, and repeat. Unless you meant something different...

Setting your standards as low as "dog rockets" and not "dog rockets." You know there are much cheaper ways of enjoying tobacco than cigars if your upside is "not a dog rocket." There are a lot of quality cigars out there with Cohiba bands that do not suit my taste. Doesn't make them "dog rockets."
El Presidente Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Are there any Cohibas left that are rolled exclusively in El Laguito? None that I know of. 1
Ryan Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 I have seen Behike 54s being rolled at Partagas.
Ryan Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Still El Laguito is considered the best factory in Cuba. Very well run, high level pf pride, great atmosphere. Yes, it's a nice place. I've seen families come in at lunchtime and have picnics with staff in the hallways. Nice people.
El Presidente Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Yes, it's a nice place. I've seen families come in at lunchtime and have picnics with staff in the hallways. Nice people. The last time we popped in they were having a full birthday party for one of the staff. El Laguito has a unique feel.
Maplepie Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Behikes, at least for the time being..... Well, maybe not even those exclusively Discounting Trinidad rumours (for the sake of consistency), around 1 in 5 were rolled in Partagas factory only to be eventually moved to El Laguito, boxed, and stamped with the code of El Laguito. I think some months/a year ago someone said that the factory box code stamped in the boxes are where they were BOXED and not where the cigars were ROLLED.
nutcracker Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 I'm not sure of how one even get to know - even Hamlet said it was becoming impossible to make sense of the box codes. I've recently taking to buying specific runs when suggested by others who have sampled them. Otherwise I think it's a crapshoot....
DWC Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 I've recently taking to buying specific runs when suggested by others who have sampled them. Otherwise I think it's a crapshoot.... That didn't work out so well for me. I got a great cab of Mag 46 from AUB May '13 so I ordered a second, AUB Jun '13. The difference in quality was like night and day. Buying blind is still a crapshoot. -Dan 1
knickerbocker Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 whenever using words like "always/never" the answer to your questions 99% of the time will be no. Unless you are talking about death or taxes. 2
sw15825 Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 If I can get them from there and it's in my budget, I do, since their pricey. But some vitolas are never rolled there (ie) Siglo V, or in such little quantities its almost impossible to find them. I've definitely smoked more non - Laguito Cohibas in my life and have found many to be just fine. In the end though, a trusted vendor is the most important imo. 1
