Optic101 Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 Sorry to hear Mus, come to Singapore when you have the chance. Tight but reasonable health rules and no need to bring cigars, enough stock here. And anyhow, our limits at customs are 0.
stigmata Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 too bad muz but the good thing is... youre unique among visitors to cuba pretty sure next time.. youll just be another face ...a anyway.. glad youre all philosophical about the experience. always enjoy your posts
Hash Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 Sorry to hear what you went through, but may be its all for the best. Keep your spirits up and enjoy London.
Miner Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 Mus What a disappointment, I couldn't believe the post as I read it. Hopefully you'll enjoy the rest of your break. Cheers
Duxnutz Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 One would have thought they'd be more jumpy entering Canada. Australian Customs brought out an Ebola Passenger card each person on board has to fill out entering the country and PAs that have to be read but that's about it.
LordAnubis Posted November 16, 2014 Author Posted November 16, 2014 Ok so just called up emirates... I got my tikets changed, basically i get back to tornoto on the 18th early morning, fly out of tornto on the 19th at night time, go to london, and leave london on the 30th Nov, get into perth on the 1st in the morning, so will have a few days of holiday in perth now before i start work on the 6th in Perth. LordAnubis Posted November 17, 2014 Author Posted November 17, 2014 One would have thought they'd be more jumpy entering Canada. Australian Customs brought out an Ebola Passenger card each person on board has to fill out entering the country and PAs that have to be read but that's about it. I just got the DFAT email about the new procedures in aus. The good thing is that they categorically state that Australians returning will not have any problems getting back (obviously, they can't stop a citizen returning to their country). They might be asked some questions etc but it will only be a 10-15 minute delay and they'll give you information on who to contact should you become sick. A guy from work who recently returned to Perth airport just got asked a few basic questions and once he explained the situation of us not having much contact with locals, being on a closed mine site, and not travelling through any ports of travel in ebola countries (we fly direct from the mine site to Ghana) they just said no worries. That's how it should be, reasonable and well informed decisions on a case by case basis. Not a blanket stupid rule like Cuba has. 2
LordAnubis Posted November 18, 2014 Author Posted November 18, 2014 Well I got into Canada!! And it was snowing at the airport. Like proper snow and stuff. Was awesome. They asked me if I've been to "Africa" I just said. "Ummm I work in Mali". His response was "oh ok" *stamp* Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

If I wasn't in the lab all day tomorrow, I would come visit you and show you around [This is ice. Don't run on it. This is snow: see how it feels when I put it down your shirt. This is an icicle, you can impale Trotsky with it]
Bartolomeo Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 Mus, sorry about your troubles and the whole gang here in Havana was very disappointed to say the least Enjoy the rest of your travels and dont give up on Cuba yet Bart
AbuAmelia Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 That does suck. They asked me if visited Texas. If I would have said yes, I probably would have been sent back as well. Thankfully, I didn't travel to Texas.
LordAnubis Posted November 21, 2014 Author Posted November 21, 2014 SO after leaving Cuba they told me i had to spend two days in Panama, otherwise i would have to pay a fair bit more on top of my original ticket. It worked out well i stayed ina decent hotel and enjoyed the luxuries of a nice bed and shower which is better than my normal hostels up to this point. I spent some time in panama city which i actually didnt get the chance to explore last time i was in this part of the world. The hotel had no real place to sit and enjoy a cigar, they had shisha in the hotel pool area but the music was super loud there. I'm talking so loud that my kidneys could feel it! Even the eye candy at the pool wasn't worth the free kidney stone ultrasonic treatment. Just not the chilled out location i like. I had a good look around the canal, the old part of the city and the place they call the causeway where there was some good cheap seafood, was pretty good when you get a plate of garlic prawns with salad and fried yucca all for 10 bucks. Bloody bargain!!! I called it an early day and went to the ariport a few hours in advance and hung out in the Copa club lounge. I like the Tocumen Airport and the lounge is great. They've got awesome showers!!!Back to Toronto i got in without question. The guy was more worried about my Ghana visa than the Mali visa on the directly opposing page. The next day i spent the whole day in Niagara where i found this small cigar shop in the town. Picked up some custom rolls from there to test them out. NC's obviosuly. The last day in Toronto i wanted to have a quiet one before going to the airport so did the washing in the morning. A girl at the hostel couldn't believe how little clothes i had, and said i could throw my clothes in with hers and didn't charge me anything, i repaid her with a coffee though. She then gave me back my clothes minus one pair of undies. Now normally i'd be happy for a cute German girl to keep my undies as a memento, but i've only got three undies so i had to get them back off her otherwise i'd be adopting the inside out technique. I'm a seasoned traveler but i won't go THAT far My last day in Toronto i finally got a proper snow experience for the first time in my life, snow falling and snow on the ground. Was great!!! On the way to the Toronto airport i refreshed my e-boarding pass on Passbook and found out that i had been given a complimentary upgrade to business class by Emirates, so the 13 hour flight from Toronto to Dubai was excellent! The aussie Emirates bar girl named Sarah made the time pass quite quickly in between naps. Got to Dubai and the security checkpoint line was huge, so i went out of immigration, and went around the outside of the airport and back in to Councourse A. The duty free cigar shop in Concourse A was pretty terrible. Not a lot of stuff, actually had more non cubans than cubans, picked up a box of Liberatadors for the London boys at the London Herf. Gave my boots to the boot polishing man and sat down in the smoking lougne for a free cigar on Emirates. The lounge was empty which is good because theres mainly cigarette smokers in there and they stink up the place, bloody cigarette smokers Had my cigar, picked up my polished boots, had a shower and hung around for a few hours for my flight to London. London didn't even care about Ebola. I swear to ALlah i told the immigration guy straight up that i work in Mali, and asked wht their Ebola procedures are and he says "Ohh no we don't do that at this terminal, all the ebola comes in through another Terminal". The motherland is in good hands folks 4
JoeyGunz Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 haha good times my brother! count yourself lucky you didn't come through the other terminal, enjoy your weekend! I hear we're getting a codl snap next week, lucky you!
Perla Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 Sorry what had happened in Cuba to you. At least it will be a unforgettable vacation for you (and for us). Thanks for the story and all the follow up reports. BTW did you not know that it is an old German habit (only for females) to sneak off the undies of travelers??
