For all of you in the States, Thanksgiving is coming up so what is planned?

I wish we had something that comes close to the meaning of Thanksgiving here in Australia

The only thing I can think of is Australia Day but we don't celebrate it the way you all do party.gif

So let us know what you have planned and how you will be celebrating

Lots of Turkey, Stuffing, Mashed Potatoes, Veggies and Cranberry Sauce followed by a nap and a full day of football paired with some wine, beer, and cigars.

By far my favorite holiday of the year.

I figured I'd find some indigenous people living in the sticks. I'll murder half and force the rest into slavery. I'm big on traditions!innocent.gif

Fly from California to North Carolina to spend a week with my parents and brothers and their families. Eat a bunch. Drink a tad less than I eat. Smoke plenty of cigars and get my brothers in trouble with their wives when they join me. Lots of football (My team's biggest rivalry weekend). Naps...lots of naps.

I only get to see my family about 2x a year so Thanksgiving is all about spending as much quality time with them as possible.

I have a tradition of "Friendsgiving" at my house. Most of my friends (like me) don't have any relatives in the area or even in the country so I host a traditional Thanksgiving dinner. I usually make the turkey in my smoker. It's always a blast and turns into a huge party late into the night

We do the same. Certainly a bit more rowdy than Thanksgiving with the family (unless one of my sisters gets overserved).

Got the BGE setup to smoke a bird this year. Last year we tried a roasted turkey brined in OJ that turned out superb, but got to switch it up. Looking forward to this year's edition. Lots of booze and good friends; can't beat it.

I'm glad you asked.

To me it the most valuable holiday of the year. It suppose to bring family together and individuals you may not even know. You sit together as a family (as those values have been lost throughout the younger generations) and enjoy many hours of food, talk, story's, alcohol, cigars and football.

We usually have turkey, stuffing, a large beef roast of sorts, many sides and about 30 people at my home.

Being sort of young (42) it amazes me how other countries celebrate their family values and make you aware of what's important in life.

I truly wish we all have a wonderful holiday and enjoy all the moments of time that we are afforded daily as it could all be gone in a blink of an eye.

My wife and I have to work the day after, so we'll get up and drive two hours to my mom's house, eat till we're sick, "visit a spell" as we say in the South, and drive back home. My three sisters' families with lot's of Mom's grand and greatgrandkids will be there and it's fun watching my 87 year old mom enjoy all the company.

I would love to be at any one of your get togethers just to experience how you all celebrate. Sounds wonderful love.gif

Maybe one day I can be in the States to enjoy party.gif

Di, you always have an open invitation to experience Southern hospitality.

T-day is my favorite Holiday. It's not about giving and getting gifts,

it's all about family coming together and spending some quality time together (even if there is an holiday family fight it's still my fav) watching some football, having some drinks, and just having a good time together. (no cigars though, I don't smoke with the young ones around but that's a-ok with me)

Not to mention I love me some Turkey , stuffing, gravy and potatoes etc.!

I do really like thanksgiving. Much more than Christmas actually, so I'm tempted to take full advantage of the fact that us Canucks celebrate it a month earlier and try to celebrate US turkey day as well!! :)

every thanksgiving the family gets together to eat, drink and some of us smoke our premium cigars on the deck. large family and depending on what boy / girl friends come over can be anywhere from 25-30 bodies in the house. it's a good time.. this Thanksgiving will be a tuff one though.. mother-in-law passed this past May after a long illness.. Family still picking up the emotional pieces.. one thing i can say though is that despite the rough patches and loud arguments we all come together during these times.

This may be the first Thanksgiving my wife and I aren't spending with any family. Our own, extended or otherwise.

I've given up traveling for the holiday as last time we went to my Mum's (usually a 2.5 hour drive), took us almost 2 hours to get to the main highway, which should have been less than 30 minutes.....not the first Thanksgiving driving nightmare - getting to old for it.

We've had family over many times but my wife's not up to it this year.

Since we're going to her family's place for Christmas not going to make that trip twice in a few weeks either.

My daughter was just here a few weeks ago for her wedding and can't get the time off this month.

A couple of times we've done with friends in the area but that's not looking likely so we may find ourselves actually going out for Thanksgiving dinner first time in our lives.

Perhaps our son will join as he's not that far away, no commitment there yet.

Regardless we'll be eating lots of turkey and trimmings, drinking well and being thankful for all we, our families and our friends have.

Going to sunny Florida! Getting away from the this -24 Celsius we are experiencing in Colorado right now. party.gif

And by the way, the holidays just ain't what they used to be. Having lost both parents by 35 (and now no remaining grandparents) and never having been comfortable with the in-laws even after 15 years, it's almost better to make the premium money to work than being trapped without any of my own side of the family to share it with (minus my own wife and kids obviulously)

So if you do still have family left, make the most of the Thanksgiving/Christmas/New Years season while you still can.

Spending the week in Cincinnati with inlaws. This will be the first road trip with the twins. We are also celebrating their first birthday up there too. The MIL is happy to be running the show for their 1st birthday. My mother isn't so happy about it. Oh well... what can you do??? I plan on letting the inlaws do as much of the babysitting as possible. I hope the weather doesn't suck too bad. I hope to play some golf... as well as polish off some booze and cigars.

Oh yeah, I'm not a big fan of turkey. I'd rather be carving into a standing rib roast. When I'm at my parents, I prefer to have my mom cook Jamaican oxtail and curry goat.

This guy is a standup from Canada that I went to school with. This show is in Montreal. He talks about Canadians and Americans, and specifically mentions Thanksgiving.

A couple of caveats:

1) Some NSFW language

2) I hope our American friends aren't offended

I'm from Detroit, so the Detroit Lions (our NFL team) plays every Thanksgiving day at 12:30. It's a great time, especially because the Lions finally show some promise this year.

Thanksgiving is great. Lots of turkey, stuffing, family and football. This year I'm going to add in some cigars and hopefully make it the best year yet!

Food, family, football. Not necessarily in that order. party.gif
