El Presidente Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 i can do a fair few things well: cooking, fishing, general business, writing, etal. yet i have some serious kryptonite when it comes to anything mechanical or DIY. The story of my fixing a $350 lighter for a client is legendary around here. It was a Colibri and when they went out of business (can't remember which time) the client brought it in to me to fix. I gave it a serious go. i even put on my watch makers hat with the magnifying glass that drops down No...I am not a watchmaker. I just liked the hat. Anyway i got the lighter to work. i was thrilled. the only problem is that I had 3 parts left over I gave it back to the client with a little trepidation but assured myself that I had only made it a better product by "streamlining" the design. I have never seen that client again....I have often wondered what happened to him. So I am crap at anything mechanical. Actually i find leggo challenging. Under the bonnet of a car is as mysterious to me as quantum physics. My greatest accomplishment in the world of DYI was replacing a door handle. it took a weekend and two visits back to the store for further instruction. I am banned from using tools at Czars. I am only certified to use Duct Tape and Octopus straps. i only found out recently that it is Duct Tape and not Duck Tape. What are you crap at?
PapaDisco Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 What?? No mechanical skill?? Oh ye the inventor of the Shoo-Away? How is this possible?! And, btw, it actually IS "Duck Tape" not "Duct Tape." The original name was granted to this fine adhesive in WWII because it would adhere to anything even when totally wet. It only became "Duct Tape" much later with the invention of modern HVAC metal ducting, quite some time after WWII. Me, I'm mostly **** at stopping myself from bidding on fine online cigar specials. That and I can't keep a neat desk, fail to ever write anything down (who has the time?! ) or keep to a schedule of any sort. 1
mash Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 World's worst sense of direction. I'm about 6 months away from getting lost in my house. 1
StingMeadery Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 ..."being normal and maths. Definitely ever so slightly eccentric !
leftimatic Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 I can do anything... but skate, ski, and win arguments with my wife. The last ones a given for most guys, but the first is almost sacrilege where I come from. I'm Canadian, born in the east. Me own Ma made fun of my inability to dazzle with the blades. As for skiing I hate it. Worked for 27 years, packing concrete forms and lumber in the snow and cold. Wear $400 inserts in my boots from a bought of frostbite that almost cost me three toes. You wont get me out there now unless you pay.... LARGE!
LordAnubis Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Drinking alcohol I suck at accounting. I mean I can budget myself and what goes in must come out, it's not that hard. But I've delayd my corporate accounting unit for my MBA going on two years now because I hate it so much. I am convinced that the entire accounting industry was built solely to employ people. It shouldn't be that hard, it doesn't need to be that complicated. 1
santela Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 I suck at drinking alcohol, no joke. I have what you call "the Asian glow", basically a genetic variation among Asians. I get very red after just one beer. Sometimes I get a rash on my chest, and often swollen scalp. Couple weeks ago I had a beer with my cigar, I started to have breathing problems, almost like an asthma attack (no I don't have asthma). So there you go, I suck at drinking.
SteveGriff Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Sense of direction is probably the #1... and not asking someone for directions is #2 3
Stoyan Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Swimming. My father doesn't like heat or sea, so I never learn how to swim properly.
contracorrientes Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 It shames me that I have to really, really concentrate to work out the time on an analogue clock - and I still get it wrong sometimes.
Overproof Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Hanging paintings..Even basic math and a tape fail me. One sides always lopsided I'm **** house at golf too.
madandana Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 It shames me that I have to really, really concentrate to work out the time on an analogue clock - and I still get it wrong sometimes. How old are you? My kids (20 & 16) both A+ students but have trouble reading a clock. To much modern technology?
madandana Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 I'm mechanically inclined but can't do carpentry for crap. I'm the guy who cuts off a 2x4 3 times and it's still to short. 2
Coolio Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Handyman type stuff including fixing things to walls. I also can't pull stuff apart and put it back together (Iike Rob it seems!) It also took me 40 years to learn "righty tighty, lefty loosey". Before that every time I had spanner or screwdriver in my hand....well.... enough said really!
LGC Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Having the patience to teach my wife how to do something she's never tried before (or has always done it the way she was taught by her parents).... Also can't smoke and play golf. I always drool on myself and overheat the cigar.
Carpenter69 Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Pretty good at carpentry and cabinetmaking (30 yrs exp.). Horrible at money and time management. Ss I type this I should be dressing for work. Oh well.
canadianbeaver Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Keeping my big mouth shut when faced with stressful situations. Should count to ten and go elsewhere for a smoke. Honestly. 1
... Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Tried golfing once... Definitely not something I have any talent at.
Mckucci Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 I'm terrible at being patient with stupidity... That and singing, I cant sing for $#!t ! 1
joeypots Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Painting. I'm just too sloppy and I can't seem to do a good job no matter how hard I try.
ShortFatHokie Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 I can do anything... but skate, ski, and win arguments with my wife. You wont get me out there now unless you pay.... LARGE! Sounds like me...I can ride a skateboard and water ski but I can't roller skate or snow ski.
sengjc Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 I can't ski...absolutely can't. Snowboarding is ok but skiing...no. Also, I can't understand cricket let alone play it. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
garbandz Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Trying to paint with an aerosol can.Seems straightforward, but I seem to apply too much paint too quickly. I have little to no patience with misspelling in books or online. It's easy to proofread, but people seem to lack self respect and respect for others, and will not take time to check their work.
Hafner32 Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Painting by far....I just recently painted my oldest son's bedroom and when I was done, I was absolutely positive that my youngest son, who is 5, could have done a better job.
