Ryan Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 I got this email yesterday from my travel insurance company. Now I know well that there are people actually suffering because of the embargo against Cuba, but still this is a pain in the arse. I've used the same insurance company for all my travel to Cuba and made claims in the past. This is the first I've heard of this. I think it's more specifically because of the extension of the reach of the embargo after the Helms-Burton act. Important Travel Insurance Policy Change Dear Andrew, We wish to notify you of an Important Travel Insurance Policy change relating to Cuban travel. oliverdst Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 Well, time to change your insurance company. 2
... Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 Can't you just take temporary coverage, like Blue Cross, to patch in for that week?
leftimatic Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 Shut them down and move on. Everyone and everything is replaceable. 1
1LegLance Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 Funny thing is there are plenty of legal ways to travel to Cuba so this is an idiot cubicle dweller who made this company policy. Oh welll as others have said lots of companies who will take your money.
AlohaStyle Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 That does suck Andy, sorry. As the archaic embargo law states, any company that does business in and with the USA cannot do business with Cuba. Your insurance company never should've accepted Cuba travel to begin with if they followed the rules by the book, so something happened internally to trigger them complying. You suffer and it's not even your dumb ass country that has the embargo law.
Maplepie Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 Wow... Lord knows how quickly I clicked on this link seeing that you posted it. Rare to see you pissed off, Andy. Mostly on the internet, too! Can say that's a really big shame. But surely your European banks can provide some sort of insurance? I get my travel insurace free from VISA (TD) which is weird considering they've twice blocked my credit card from accessing the Cuban economy [for unstated reasons]. Next time you're heading to Cuba, make a stopover in Toronto! Get free travel insurance if you pose as my Neice's Mother's Brother .
... Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 Get free travel insurance if you pose as my Neice's Mother's Brother .Can 'Brother of the leaf' be used as a family relationship for insurance purposes?
Maplepie Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 Can 'Brother of the leaf' be used as a family relationship for insurance purposes? so long as you say the first part audibly and the second part subtly....... 1
