I actually wrote this post on a 4wd forum where we have a small group of cigar smokers...

thought is would be fun to post here

Ok time to talk ashtrays....
First off they don't matter....and yet they do :)
You don't have to have an ashtray per se as any ol' surface that keeps your stick from rolling onto the floor/ground and doesn't burn will do.
But that won't help contain the ash or keep dust/dirt/stuff off the soggie end of your stogie.
So we end up with ashtrays.
And if you are going to do something do it right.

So this is a vintage cigar ashtray I got years and years ago and I love it. Not too large and yet the cut crystal is pretty enough for the wife.
We know it is a cigar ashtray vs cigaretter due to the size of the holders on the sides. This is important since something made for skinny cig's won't hold your stogie.
The bowl is large enough to hold all the ash from a double corona or churchill yet small enough not to overwhelm the desk.
Also the diameter of the ashtray allows a long cigar and is still visually balanced with this minuto.

Now some of the problems with some modern "cigar" ashtrays.
First the length of the holder notch is great if all you smoke are the first 1/2 of anything longer than 6in. But as you can see with this minuto I am barely into it yet having issues.
Also the overall length of the ashtray is awkward for my desk.
The we get to the small bowl relative to the length of cigar this makes me reach for.
As a side note you can see that I enjoy cutting with a beat up pocket knife I found when hiking years ago...hey the blade is still razor sharp.
So show off your ashtrays and what you like or dislike about them.

I have a couple of ashtrays very similar to the one in the first pic.

They're okay but shows its shortcomings when the breeze on the deck picks up in speed. I prefer the classic Stinky when smoking outside.

Since i started smoking a year ago i have not purchased any ashtrays, i use what i have around the house and just last week i discovered this bad boy..i always knew i had it but never realised it was an ashtray (petit edmundo for scale)

P.s. I admit those long cigar ashtrays like your second picture are awkward and they can be frustratingpost-20396-0-57899300-1414134247_thumb.jpost-20396-0-37241300-1414134255_thumb.j

Here is a picture of my ashtray, I actually work in the industry manufacturing these. However, due to forum rules, cannot mention my companies name. I will say, what I like about them is that they accommodate a removable cigar rest, which is great for taking with you on the go. The only downside is, as of right now there is only the one style. So accommodating multiple cigar smokers can be a little tricky!

I have a few, but rarely use them as I also smoke primarily outdoors, and simply ash in the grass. But indoors or out, I never really use them as a rest - I pretty much always hold my cigar in my fingers.

This is the one I used to use most often:

I started off with this cigar ashtray: http://img.cigarsinternational.com/p/500/sp/r/sp-rbpasst02.jpg

Thought it looked neat with the wood and glass top and it came with 6 cigars too, but quickly found out the wood was cheap, the middle tray didn't align with the cigar notches so you had to play a balancing act to get the cigar to rest without falling on itself, and I found that letting a cigar go out on its own would often mean that it rolled to the edges and scorched the wood anyway.

Now I'm using this one: http://www.blljinc.com/images/2558.jpg

I don't know who makes it and it seems pretty common, but I'm loving it so far. It just looks nice and does what it needs to do. Done and done.

Sometimes an ashtray is just an ashtray, form and function apply in some cases but for the most part it's the cigar that intrigues me. Give me a good CC and I really do pay much attention to the ashtray.

Love my Padron Ashtray. It's pretty durable, and I leave it outside a lot without any of the design being comprimised, works for 1,2 or 4 no problem (unless you're all smoking Churchills)

Is that rocks glass Tiffany?

I have a really similar (identical?) set of the "plaid" collection from them. It's really nice italian crystal.

correct but this thread is about ashtrays so let's talk about ashtrays

i really like my friends square lcdh one with the print but I don't see many i like

oh and of course the marble HN ones, never liked cohiba accessories much for some odd reason though, I think the design doesn't look great on a large scale

I just get some of the free ones now and then. But I bought a triangular Monte Cristo that I like. Most are just too bulky and take up too much room to me.

I've just got the ol' reliable Ashton ash tray. Been looking to get something more unique, like what some of our fellow BOTLs have, but I can't stop buying boxes, so there's no money left over haha.

I want to buy a nice ashtray but I'm just can't bring myself to spend money that could be cigars on lighters and ashtrays. I have 3 of these hand shaped ashtrays. They do the job fantastically and were less than $10 for a set of 3. Usually use one as a rest and one for the ash:

I have a few stinkys, got them at a good discount. I have a few sizes including the huge Herf sized one on pedestal but I mostly use the tall black powder coated.

Bought a few with the idea of using them innocent.gif . As I smoke exclusively outside it usually ends up straight on the patio floor then swept into the garden. pooped.gif .

Half the time I just use my lap.

Very utilitarian. Was a gift from a friend. Piston from his Pontiac Firebird 400 engine.

I love the 4 finger "Stinky ashtray". Huge bowl and and large enough stirrups for all cigars. You can get them with stands too. A regular smokers ashtray that can hold alot of ash! Reasonably priced also. That said I'd love to get a Hotel Nacional Astray cause its just cool.
