rodrigodeanda Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 I bought some yesterday in my local B&M hope they smoke fine as those will be my first monte 4 I'll taste
Pilsner14 Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 Any Monte #4 previously bought and smoked were tighter than a drum to smoke......turned me off. Until recently.......purchased off the host and the test run proved to be successful. As a May 2014 box I found it really strong...not acrid...but strong. Similar to some Siglo VI's I have. I thought the Siglo was a loner in this category until this recent Monte #4. Rest. JD
RijkdeGooier Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 They are great smokes when 'on'.. Just every so often they seem to loose flavor or are too ashy... apart from construction problems
dvickery Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 i have never bought a box of monty#4's ... but i have smoked 100 to 125 x 5packs over the years(say 500 to 700 monty#4's) . some are excellent some are just okay ... never had a "bad" one tho ... now that i think of it never had a plugged one either . derrek
Webbo Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 How can you buy blind in Cuba? My friend who will be in Cuba and has my money has never bought or seen a cigar in his life. Hence I'm buying blind. 1
El Presidente Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 I avoid Monte 4's that: Have a thin papery light wrapper (Tastes like carboard in the main) Have a green/olive tinge to the wrapper (Impinges the chocolate/coffee/cream notes a Monte 4 should have). Have no aroma at cold. Rolled too tight or too loose. 1

Thanks for the input Rob, and for sharing your trade secrets As I look through my recent FOH box I see solid wrapper, chocolate brown, they smell wonderful, and roll looks and tested ok. And that's a PE box. Thanks for being there. A.

sw15825 Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 Well, I think I am qualified to answer this one. Just threw 11 montes 4s in the garden from a new box I got recently. They look great, smell great, are constructed perfectly, none are loose or plugged. YOu would choose this box from a walk in humidor based on visuals and smell. They just all taste like butter and salt and nothing else. Some taste like nothing. This
sw15825 Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 Is buying blind in Cuba just as risky with the Monte 4? Yes and then some.
sw15825 Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 My friend who will be in Cuba and has my money has never bought or seen a cigar in his life. Hence I'm buying blind. Have him buy as many RA Superiores you can afford. This would be a good blind buy and I think they are priced well.

A.
garbandz Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 Prez,I love the green/olive tint wrappers, guess we have different tastes.........
subport Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 Haven't had a single bad monte 4 ever. Including half a dozen blind purchased boxes. Most of them were hq at least. Yes I was maybe lucky with them. They are in my regular rotation and love them. Not that lucky with the 5's though. Half of the last box were rubbish...
CanuckSARTech Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 Agreed with Rob's thoughts - thin and/or greenish wrappers lead to horrible cardboard-iness. Yuck. Just recently finished up another review on one from a 2009 HQ box... http://lights-sirens-and-cigars.com/2014/10/12/cigar-review-montecristo-no-4-oct-2009-ras-box-code-final-score-88/
