Taking cigars from Oz to Thailand

Hello guys,

My mates bucks is a long weekend in Thailand in a few weeks and needless to say I want to take some cigars with me (maybe half a dozen).

Are you able to take cigars in hand luggage over to Thailand and do you have to declare, pay duty etc?

I don't want to be held up in customs etc dealing with it or god forbid have them confiscated.

On a side note is duty free any good in Thailand for cigars? We are staying in Pattaya

Any help would be appreciated.

If you bring along only half a dozen, it should be no problem.

Pataya has one decent shop from PCC., but I think cigars price in Thailand really pricey.

So better bring your own.

No good cigar at duty free shop.

Last few RACF are available at cigar shop in the Grand Hyatt Erawan hotel.

Dicko go for it - was in Thailand in July and took a dress box chock full of an assortment of stogies (15 at least) as part of carry on. No one said boo.

Yeah you can bring in 12 no problems.

When I went there earlier in the year the limit was 25 cigars. Or approx 250 grams of tobacco.

I also went to Pattaya they have a LCDH there. Pretty standard selection, nothing special. There was a couple of other shops I saw didn't bother checking them out.

Prices similar to Aus though, so you're better off bringing your own.

If you're going through Bangkok, the selection there is also pretty average, prices are better online.

Pattaya is pretty cool, you're gonna have a good time!

Why don't you buy them here duty free, and take them with you? That will save you heaps, as well as being entirely legal (as far as I'm aware).

Rob, this makes no difference for the fact you have to follow the arrival regulation at destination.

Duty Free

Thailand customs allows visitors to enter Thailand with personal effects, the value of which does not exceed 80,000 Baht, without paying import fees as long as: 1) the items are specifically for personal or professional use; 2) the amount of goods are reasonable; and 3) the items are not subject to restriction or prohibition.

There are restrictions on the amounts of alcohol and tobacco products; only the following amounts may be transported into Thailand under duty free regulations:

* 250 grams of cigars or smoking tobacco, or 200 cigarettes

* 1 liter of wine or liquor.
