Habana Mike Posted September 20, 2014 Posted September 20, 2014 Picked up a box of these on Rob's recommendation. Colorado wrapper, a bit rough with a few veins. A little squishy in spots however the draw is firm as I like. Prelight bouquet of toasty tobacco and cinnamon sugar Predraw shows sweet cherry, hay. Starts out with a blast of powerful oily, almost juicy smoke. Sweetness on the lips and rich full-bodied flavors of pastry and plums. Red pepper spice through the nose. Some harshness back of throat. Leaves a nice oily lingering coating of maraschino and cream on the palate Flaky gray ash only holds about a half inch at a time. Caramel and leather enter in the center third. Pepper has sudsided to a degree on the retro but still present. Strength remains while the oily texture moves to a drier smoke. The wrapper darkens with oils as the cigar progresses. Caramel moves to a burnt sugar, bitter cherry and dark chocolate/espresso notes come in as I approach the end. Couldn't quite take this one to the nub - let it extinguish itself at the one hour mark. Leaves a tingling on my lips and the tip of my tongue. The sweet earthy oily leather finish seems to last forever. This one brings to mind how the RACF initially performed - a similar power, oiliness, apparent nicotine strength and back of the throat harshness, albeit with a different overall flavor profile. These need to be set down a while before hitting their prime - looking forward to revisiting over the next few years. 1
bradbrennan Posted September 20, 2014 Posted September 20, 2014 I picked up a box of these as well, sounds like I need to try one soon...I like burnt sugar, at least on creme brulee!
jazzboypro Posted September 20, 2014 Posted September 20, 2014 Bought one also, i got it last week. If i remember correctly, Rob suggested to let them rest a least a year. Thanks for the review.
