When Tabacuba puts Coronas back on the menu, say about $160 a box, I will be a buyer again. Until then, I can wait them out with relative comfort. I have not actively bought since 2008…

Smokers mature, I am sure I am in a stage. I won't know if it is terminal until they find me face down in an ashtray…!

Life, priorities, and interests change. I still love smoking cigars, but no longer chase anything. I average 1-2 a week at the most, so running out anytime soon is not a concern. I haven't bought f

Good luck mate... Seriously. I tried that... once. twas a dark 5 hours for me. Sent by the Enigma on BlackBerry.

Time is a jet plane and things change. I have decided to no longer buy any cigars but smoke my way through my remaining stash.. Then when I'm running out I'll start buying again, stuff I feel like s

Great post and good for you for getting there.

I am also in the same boat. I too want to sit back and relax and enjoy. It is hard as there with some great recent offerings and some new cigars that have peaked my interest.

Is anyone concerned about part of a collection that could age past it's prime? We see more cigars today that are smokable sooner. For example lots of guys talking about the mag 48s already on a decline. Do we hoard and when we get to them will there be less enjoyment than if we smoked during the peak years?

Very good question. At the rate I smoke and buy, I doubt anything shall get too old to be enjoyed but we shall see when we get there.

If you don't mind me asking , what made you stop buying cigars ?

… well I have a few! Cigars that is!

A number of reasons. First and foremost was that I made significant purchases based on my belief that Tabacuba would be killing the cigars that I favor. I would not buy 1 box of Diplomatico #1's to replace the one I smoked, I would buy all that I could find… I speculated and speculated correctly on some of these cigars and that is why I have them today.

Tabacuba has killed most of the cigars that I favor. I have no replacement for the RAPC for example. They don't make PC's that I like as much as the Partagas PC, again, for an example. There are fewer coronas, PCs, lonsdales… there is less for me to buy!

The costs have increased. I am not going to pay more for inferior cigars. That is a hard and fast rule. These are my generalizations, and they fit me, so you should not take them to heart. My judgements may not be right for you!

I had a heart attack in '08 and it set me back. The economy did not help me financially, that is a story all its own…

I have a deep passion for cigars to this day. I write here prolifically, but I have become a bit of an anachronism. I don't opine much on my cigars because it begins to look as though I am some type of cigar collector when I am anything but. I am a 'proletariat type cigar' smoker… Tabacuba has moved away from me, my tastes and my business.

You might then call it the perfect storm for me. I don't need new cigars! Would I like to be buying them; sure but the cigars themselves are not of a great interest to me?

I have moved a lot of my zeal into humidor design and talking humidor science is largely what keeps me on here. I also love to bash Tabacuba for what they have done to the Cuban cigar, and to constantly point out that they have lost my business. Maybe it will sink in somewhere because I would love to buy a new box of RA Coronas, Bolivar Coronas, Upmann Corona… coronas, coronas, coronas… Then, petit coronas, lonsdales, minutos…. You get the picture.

I hope that answers your questions.

Cheers, Ray

the first hours are hard. you are sweating and your hands are shaking....beware.

Yes there is a 12:12 or a LFTH looming waiting to pounce at any minute. Then all hope is lost.

I tend to not over think the whole issue, I have a good stock to last me 2-3 years. When the stuff I like goes on sale, I buy. I do fear some of my favorites will be discontinued such as most of the PLs or some of the smaller vitolas.

I am in my thirties, I can afford to buy what I like, which is mostly reg production inexpensive stuff. I don't get the acquisition disorders, but to each their own (no offence to those that have it). I just don't see myself obsessing over cigar purchases.

I do however understand the collectors or people with enough cash to buy everything they want and enjoy it. A well curated cigar collecting is a thing of beauty (Like Urs's collection).

I have a 150 quart cooler that I have literally stuffed to the top over the last couple of months. So I am done buying too.....

..... Until I can get another cooler set up.

I'm definitely in a building phase. I want to get to the point where I could conceivably have a collection for life (at say, 1 cigar a week) if the nanny statists ban tobacco in the future or prices become crazy.

Right now I have 2 year supply so I have a long way to go.

I remember someone (perhaps Ross?) saying you should be prepared to spend 10% of your income on cigars. I reckon that's in line with what I've been doing and plan to do.

I'm done buying too. My smoking has been much lesser these days new job, longer working hours and more stressed out but the biggest factor for me was i ran out space and i just cant be bothered with the hassle of building another wineador. I have a couple boxes of regular production that's ageing i got a assortment REs for the special occasion. To be really honest i've only smoked 1 or 2 cigars this past year, i think I'm kind of phasing out of the hobby, dont get me wrong i still enjoy a cigar here and there but the collecting bit im growing out of it. I've got 400-500 cigars, that should last me at least 5 years but i will make sure that i will always have RASS and Connie 1.

The link I then put, and why it didn't work afterwards, was for the 12:12 deal that Rob put up.

QdO Coronas. $150 USD per box.

Pony up that Visa, Pig!

LOL. :D

I actually wish I would have seen it. I would have probably bought some.

It is a drag not shopping for cigars. I just have no interest in P2, and robustos, and edmundos… and most of the stuff I see put up.

QdO Coronas are grand cigars and frankly if I had not been pouring most of my cash into my business, I would likely be setting some 20 boxes away… I probably have 4 or 5, I don't really know. Furthermore, I have no room unless I build yet another humidor, which I will be doing once I get some of my customers off my desk… Once I get a deposit, I move on my customers stuff and put off everything else. My stuff is always on the back burner for one reason or another.

Cheers mate!

Oh, if you have that DrJ post handy, email it to me… I could use a good laugh! -Ray

I wish I had the will power to stop buying. For me, my box buying is addiction at its finest.

It's really a shame you discount some great cigars ie robustos.

I currently have enough cigars to smoke one per day for two full years. The reason i keep buying is because i can afford it and i want to build a stash while i can, who knows what the prices will be in a year or two ? or maybe it will be more difficult to buy online because of some laws. I'll be 50 years old in a few months and time goes fast, the day will come when i will no longer be able to buy at my current rate so i'm buying while i can.

Cheers

I buy needed on space and budget. I buy what I like which is about 15-20 vitolas across all the marcas besides ERDM. All regular production. Was burned in the RE/LE arena in the past and the disappointment was huge due to the cost of the boxes. So, I just never in the mood to gamble when it cones to cigars given the likelihood of inconsistencies between and among boxes.

I'm happy with what I have and I want to smoke what I have. I don't list for what I dont have anymore.
