Por Larranaga Petit Corona AME MAY 12 Review

Por Larranaga Petit Corona, Cab 50 from 2012

Checking up on the development of this Cab50, to see if they are already coming up to smoke.

The Ashes.

Size: Mareva (Petit Corona)

Smoking time: 0:45

Location: outside on my patio, no wind

Construction and burn were good. Slightly uneven burn.

Mild to medium strength cigar.

Taste is some chocolate, with honey, sweet notes on the retrohale.

Very little harsh tones, the taste is slowly increasing in strength throughout the sigar.

From my point of view, the taste is fairly similar to the Hoyo linea classica, more specifically Des Dieux, although slightly lighter in my opinion. A little development throughout the cigar becoming slightly less mild towards the end.

Verdict: 7.5/10

A good small Cuban cigar with beautiful delicate taste, which I believe will get better with age.

This is very surprising.

What is the "Hoyo linea classica"? Apart the Epicure line (to which we can add the petit robusto) and the "Hoyo du x" line, what's left? The DC, the Palmas Extra and the Coronation A/T…

And in my experience none of them offers the slightest resemblance with the rusticity of a young PLPC… confused.gif

SC,

The distinction you make is also the one that I and others make. The Classica is the older Hoyo line - so the Hoyo du X...

For me the PLPC resembles a lighter version of a Des Dieux in taste of the sweet notes only - the rustic element (similar to RyJ Cazadores - that's what I would call rustic) was not present in this PLPC.

I see. I guess you're talking about the "high" notes, fruity, citrusy, etc. The young Hoyo des Dieux is the only one in the line to offer these notes; the others are more "woody" (to my taste).

Correct, this is also my observation. The Des Dieux is by far my favorite from that line, precisely because of the palet.

You seem very meticulous in your observations. I will try to be as specific as I can be, but for me the hobby is still that, a hobby. I enjoy your detailed comments but sometimes I ask myself, is it really important to be so precise?

PLPCs have rocked my world...especially some of the ones I got from our host which I smoked on a recent road trip.

Have tried so hard to like these over the years just feel like duds to me. Thanks for the review.

I feel the same way, but good review regardless.
