El Presidente Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 I was thinking about this on the weekend. Is the market ready (again) for a proper Cuban Candela (Double Claro) Cigar? For those not in the know...Candela is a green or greenish tinge wrapper. Done properly it is picked earlier than full maturation and dried in a shorter period of time than normal. Once very popular. Now as to the question. hypothetical people...hypothetical! PCC Regional Release 2016 is a Ramon Allones 898 There are no reviews...but you have to pre-order. You can choose from two wrapper shades. 500 boxes of each but you are limited to one box only. One is being offered in Candela, The cigars look like an Iguana. Pale green. One is being offered in Colorado Maduro Wrapper. Both are priced at $325 USD. Question: Which would you choose?
Puros Y Vino Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 I have an NC candella at home. Can't bring myself to smoke it. I wouldn't mind trying a Cuban one. But putting down for a whole box? No. 1
Lant63 Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Easy, one box for me, and I will get a friend to buy the other for me!

Maplepie Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Rob. Don't torture Frank. He's actually a nice guy.
Jeremy Festa Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 I would definitely get the candela box Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
MIKA27 Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 I have never had a candela cigar purely because the colour puts me off. I'll take the maduro any day.
Optic101 Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Open to it and a chance to have a special box.
sharks Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 I have never had a candela cigar purely because the colour puts me off. I'll take the maduro any day. x 2
headstand Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 The Ramon Allones 898 is 43 ring gauge, correct? If so I would be tempted by the candela. Fun to try something different.
Hohenthal Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Tough one, this - whilst I really like my RG, HU, CX QdO and others in claro / colorado-claro, Ramon Allones generally just works really nice on the darker wrapper shades - this being said, the best box of RA Superiores I had was unusually light in colour - I'd try the candela. Cheers, Alex
Lotusguy Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 I'd try it, even though I have had horrible experiences with NC Candelas.
sheppsea Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 If choosing between the two wrappers I would choose the colorado maduro, especially if buying a box, but I would quite like to try the Candela I wouldn't hesitate to try one
cigcars Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 No way I'd choose a green Candela cigar. I once smoked one years ago out of curiosity. NO flavor; NO aroma. It was once called an "American Selection" years ago or else supposedly geared toward the American market once upon a time. I suppose it was for people with weak constitutions or something who couldn't handle a properly aged Colorado or English Market Selection (EMS) smoke. 1

Armaniac Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 I have never had a candela cigar purely because the colour puts me off. I'll take the maduro any day. x3
jedipastor Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 I would definitely try a Cuban candela, because I'll bet it would work better with Cuban tobacco than Nicaraguan. But 9 times out of 10 I'm sure I'd prefer a Colorado maduro.
in0gravity Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 I would try the Candela as well. Never had one before.

maxcjs0101 Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Hmm id probably only get 2-3 sticks rather than the whole box as i would prefer to spend my extremely limited cash on something more proven..
Ryan Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 If I was offered only one box, then the candela. Simply because I've never had a Cuban candela. In an ideal world I'd have a box of both. It would be a good opportunity to compare differences in wrapper. How about this for a PCC release. RA 898 with the top layer candela wrapped, middle layer rosado and the bottom layer colorado maduro. Three different cigars in one box yet still the same. 1
shlomo Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 A few years ago I was burning through a box of 98 Des Dieux. I would have sworn with candela wrappers. They were not good. Had another box with the same date code with colorado wrappers that were out of this world. If I can, I will avoid any extreme. I don't want maduro, or very dark, and I don't want claro claro
