peterk814 Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 Those Tuna look incredible, there was a story about a bluefin sold in Japan recently for 37K! Thanks. Tuna can go for quite a bit more. Even when I am selling them to a distributor who then takes them to places like Tsukiji fish market for the auction I can end up getting 30-40 USD per lb. When a fish gets to be over 300-400lbs it can be quite a sum of money =) 1

Grahamsant Posted February 15, 2015 Author Posted February 15, 2015 I've not been on the forum much lately but great to see this thread still going and some cracking pictures coming in! Some great fiahing out there!!! We're still learning here...haven't done much fishing over the winter but have learned (the hard way) that when coarse fishing in the cold...unless you have maggots you're not likely to catch much! We have since been using maggots but haven't caught much more than a plethora of small silvers. Sea fishing I've been sorting through my gear and again trying to get the right bait. A friend recommended lugworm but haven't had much luck with it at all. May just go back to ragworm or try out some prawn. Tight lines all! Hopefully I'll get some nice pics up soon.

Biggest Mirror Carp I'd caught before today was 1lbs 7 oz. First fish out was a 4lb 1 oz Mirror!! Biggest fish I've ever caught?? 4lbs 6 oz tench. My second fish out was another mirror at 7lbs and 1 oz and followed not too far later by a 7lb 7oz Mirror!!! Lovely quiet place to fish and weather held up! Only thing I forgot to take were my damn cigars!!!!! 1

Grahamsant Posted March 16, 2015 Author Posted March 16, 2015 Some sea fishing action from Saturday. First location we went to was a total bust so we moved on to a nearby marina. I only had to cast about 15 feet in front of me (from the shore) and my rig was dropping at least 80-90 feet straight in to a wrasse pit. I personally caught 3 Ballan Wrasse (new species for me so PB's all round!!) within an hour at 1lb 6oz, 1lb 11 oz and 2lb 7oz and due to some previous snags and lost rigs there were 3 of us taking in turns with my one remaining rod! Before today, my friends PB Ballan Wrasse was 1lb 3oz and he caught a 2lb 10oz. Will definitely be going back there as this was only our first time here and to get straight into some pretty decent sized wrasse means there's got to be something bigger there too! Unfortunately I'm recovering from a chest infection so no smokes :-( and excuse my friends photo bombing!!! 1
Grahamsant Posted March 19, 2015 Author Posted March 19, 2015 Beautiful day fishing with Kim on our 11 year anniversary. We caught over 64lbs of fish between us with 13 fish! Kim never caught a carp before and she caught 7 today! 3 mirrors over 6lb, the best being 6lb 8oz. I caught 6 carp, the best being a 7lb 11oz Common Carp and a 9lb Mirror Carp! Beating my personal best for both types of carp and the 9lb being my heaviest fish yet! Getting close to double figures!

They have bitten people who accidentally step on them in shallow water; they may also bite scuba divers, surfers, [2] or snorkellers who poke or touch them, or who block their escape route.[citation needed]Wobbegongs are very flexible and can easily bite a hand holding on to their tail.[3] They have many small but sharp teeth and their bite can be severe, even through a wetsuit; having once bitten, they have been known to hang on and can be very difficult to remove.[4] In Australia, the flesh of wobbegongs and other shark species is called flake and it is often the "fish" component of fish and chips. Wobbegong skin is also used to make leather. Hahaha great to read after the fact! 1

Still counts!! i see you have just joined the rob ayala school of fishing. he'd have them mounted. as for wobbegong, pretty much all that true but they are great animals. especially when small. i remember as a kid, chasing them round a reef on a trip up the barrier reef. catching them by hand but always releasing them. great fun but probably annoyed the hell out of the poor fish. just had a mate send a photo of a good trout he got on the wairau a few days ago. i was heading down the coast for easter but now unlikely. so over not doing any fishing. 2

We did after returning to the dock, they were on ice for an hour and a half ride back to the dock.we usually filet and loin them once back at the dock. I'vebleed them out at sea before and ddon't find much of a difference in the short time period. If I was on an overnight trip I would bleed them out there.
