CaptainQuintero Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 Hmm can somebody explain to as I am a non-native English. What's the difference between a Gurkha and a gherkin? A Ghurka is a soldier from Nepal who fights in the British Army. When the British were busy Empire building in India they had to fight in Nepal, they were so impressed with the ferocity, skill, fearlessness of the warriors they recruited them. There's been Gurkhas in the British any ever since, and still. They've fought in pretty much every conflict. Their selection processes is the most intensive and brutal in the world bar none, youtube has good vids, and they're widely accepted as the most legendary soldiers/warriors in the world. Ignoring the hundreds of stories from the 1800s right up to this year of gurkhas doing incredible and insane heroics as if out of Hollywood, physically because they are from the mountains of Nepal, their stamina levels are literally superhuman. The UK government also treats them like dirt, only recently after a high profile campaign have they been given the right to live in the UK after retiring and an equal pension to that of standard UK soldiers. Gherkins are little pickled cucumbers Rocky Patel I think is Indian or Indian decent, wether be has links to Gurkhas beyond that I don't know. The guy in the band on Gurkhas cigars is a Gurkha. 1

Gurkhas saved my grandmother's life many many years ago.. 1
CaptainQuintero Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 Gurkhas saved my grandmother's life many many years ago.. Cool! What's the story behind that? It sounds like it must be an interesting one!
ErikB Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 Cool! What's the story behind that? It sounds like it must be an interesting one! That happened just after the war in a town called Depok on Java, when the Japanese had left and Indonesian guerrillas seized the opportunity to fight for independence. They attacked the predominantly christian settlement and were already rounding up the population when the Dutch journalist and writer Johan Fabricius called in the help of the British forces that were stationed nearby, and the Ghurkas came and saved a lot of people. So while I only smoke Cuban cigars, I made a point to buy and smoke a Ghurka when I visited the US a couple of years ago. 2

Nice My Grandad served in Burma in the war and was shocked at everything the Gurkhas did, they were superhuman in everything they did, whether finding food out of nowhere or carrying huge weights up the sides of mountains like they were off for a Sunday jog.

I read somewhere that during the Falklands war the Argentinian soldiers decided they'd had enough when they heard rumours that the Ghurkas would be landing soon
CaptainQuintero Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 I read somewhere that during the Falklands war the Argentinian soldiers decided they'd had enough when they heard rumours that the Ghurkas would be landing soon lol yeah I've heard that one, no idea if its true but the version I read was they wouldn't surrender to the paratroopers then they heard the Royal Marines were coming but they didn't budge, then they heard the SAS were on their way so they started getting nervous asked wondered if it was worth staying, then they heard that it was the Ghurkhas who were actually on their way so they came down the mountain and surrendered

TexAg Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 Doesn't he have that cavernous humidor that he has used in the past I hear it adds a more... natural flavor... to the cigar.
TM-US Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 I have never smoked a Ghurka cigar, so I guess I don't know what I'm missing.
