All this talk persuaded me to pull an older Petite Lancero from the NC Wineador this evening. One of the sizes I prefer which I neglected to mention in my initial post.

The Opus blend always has struck me as a total apple pie experience and this one delivered in spades, cold draw and on light. Fruit, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves. Pepper kicks in pretty quickly with some caramel and earth.

With a few years on it, most of the harshness and bite has subsided and it's been a quite enjoyable smoke.

Not to my current tastes but given these cost less (at MSRP) than most EL/RE Habanos of the past few years I'd say it's something everyone that's not tried one should give a go just to form your own opinion.

The ash is strong with this one.

Every once in a while this topic comes up. Pre FOH I was a fan. Liked the Power Ranger XXX. Every once in a while you could get a 10'er on OLH for $100. Not sure why but I trusted the guy selling them.

Then I saw some of the weird ones, ***** this and BBMF that. Ones from the movie forbidden whatever. Just stuck to the regular ones and went Cuban.

Personaly I like Padron maduro better than Fuente,with the one exception the Fuente 2005 God Of Fire Tubo robusto!! That is one hell of A smoke IF you can find it! It is very full body and smooth as can be,I picked up four on an auction site A couple years ago for $100 and that was an excellent deal! I have one left I will smoke on my birthday in A week ,dont know if I will see any more! bummer!!!

Opus is A good cigar,but for the price there are some that are just as good or better! I would like to try the lancero though!

I enjoy them for their strength. Agree an aged Opus is a great Opus.

I've tried many many times to get into these. I had access to free ones hen I worked in a cigar store. I could never justify em when there's soo many other amazing NCs for far less $$

I am a fan of the Opus X. I don't pay a crazy markup, though. My petit lanceros are all $9-12 a stick. For the price, they are hard to beat in a NC.

The only expensive stick that I really got a lot out of recently is the Lost City double robusto. Great cigar. Bitter cocoa, cafe au lait and dark chocolate notes galore. Maybe not worth $30, but I loved it.

I have enough opus to age, and the '08-09 sticks are great right now. The pepper that you find young is gone and you get a really refined smoke out of them now. So you need to put them down for 5+ years.

never tried one. have a few at home of the super belicoso, will try one this summer and share my opinion then. it has a bit og age on them, say about 3 years.

Speaking of Opus X, currently smoking one from last year- Petit Lancero. Great cigar. Strangely, none of the typical cayenne pepper that you normally taste in these. More of a rich cream and caramel notes. Cold draw was full of plum and raisin.

How do you guys age these? I bought 2 tin cans 2 winters ago and have been storing in the original can with the cello and cedar still on. I'm wondering if that will be slowing down the process considerably.

For me he best Fuentes are the Destino del Siglo the blue band with the patriarch on the middle but an opus with 3 years is an amazing smoke.

I was always underwhelmed smoking them fresh way too overpowering but a great treat with some age, I like to get a tin of Churchill's every christmas just to age

I take them out of the tin and cello with the cedar still on, I take all my smokes out of the cello mostly due to OCD

IMO they are way over rated, and way over priced... Just like Padron.

I've had a few of them over the past couple months, and I've found them to be quite ashy....

the first several times i smoke them i was underwhelmed, almost to the point of disappointment but note quite. i think the don carlos are better, and there are so many other brands out there that are twice as yummy at half the price.

Fuente makes a great product - love Don Carlos #3 and robustos - anejo not so much and OpusX only #4 - have tried other Opus but never found a fit - price can be reasonable at MRSP -

Bought one a couple of weeks ago just to see what all the hype is about. Honestly, it did nothing for me. I've smoked much cheaper NC sticks that are more enjoyable than the Opus X.

I would like to know how much you are paying for Opus X to say they are overpriced. I would share that opinion at north of $20 a stick.

Most of my Opus X is around $12 a stick, which IMO is quite reasonable and comparable to some of the CCs that I like to smoke.
