earthson Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 Investing? They're the best! $50 Opus A anyone? How about a Opus X Maduro double robusto for $35? Guaranteed fake so they're sure to be a collector's item...
imangelo Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 I'd sooner grab two Padron 64s for the price instead
santela Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 Smoked one in Vegas on my wedding day, tossed half way through. Shoulda brought some CCs.
SaintLuis Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 I've had very good luck with them, particularly aged stock. I like the xxx and the perfexxion x. I have a few floating around that I'm excited to get to but they're not in any regular rotation for me. I'd kill a bunny for a shark. Never had one. struck out at casa Fuente when I was there last month. As for the anejos, I keep a small stash of sharks. Love those things, but rarely smoke them as they've got so much flavor. Need to be in the mood for it
Vetteman Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 I like them and the Ashton VSG. A nice change of pace from cuban tobacco. I don't smoke a lot of them but as others have said, aged versions are better. Prices are high but I don't pay over MSRP.
... Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 Which Ashton VSG vitola do you prefer or gets the most appreciation in general?
chrisgeo Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 I like them for the most part. Still a little bit pricey for what they are.
bradbrennan Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 I'd sooner grab two Padron 64s for the price instead How about several Partagas or Bolivar for the same money...aren't there $33 Padrons? But seriously, I can't honestly defend any of them. I swore it wouldn't happen, but I can't enjoy them as I once did. Maybe it's the same as how my food tastes have changed over the years, can rarely enjoy chain restaurants.
LLC Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 Which Ashton VSG vitola do you prefer or gets the most appreciation in general?Back when I smoked NC's I like the Illusion. It was the one that the guys running Casa Fuente Recommended and it was the vitola I ended up preferring. I probably still have some somewhere:)

Habana Mike Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 Back when I smoked NC's I like the Illusion. It was the one that the guys running Casa Fuente Recommended and it was the vitola I ended up preferring. I probably still have some somewhere:) Yep, back when these came out the Illusion was my vitola of choice followed by the Belicoso. VSG was one of my top 5 while in my NC stage, haven't touched one in quite a long time. Like the FFOX a bit too overwhelming now.
sengjc Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 I like them and the Ashton VSG. A nice change of pace form cuban tobacco... Yes the Ashton VSG is a really good NC.
Large215 Posted August 23, 2014 Author Posted August 23, 2014 I'm enjoying Reading everyone's opinions of ffox Don Carlos and VSG put up this post because I love opus x and all fuente cigar I'm just getting sick and tired of the Chase and pricing ... I'm Member at Holts cigar co in Philadelphia what is HQ of Ashton cigars and all Ashton related products and the fuente family has an event once a year and I get to buy all sizes of opus x and fuente cigar at msrp ... Just some times I'm sick of the Chase Thanks to every one for posting dave,
Lasabar Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 Yes the Ashton VSG is a really good NC. The VSG was one of my first cigars that got me hooked many years ago. Still a warm place in my heart for it, but I don't smoke many of them nowadays.
Hugomarink Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 I like 'em! They are still somewhat hard to get (at least from my local shops) so it's always kind of fun when they get some in as they still have that "special" connotation to me. I've had a few duds over the years but mostly I've enjoyed them both fresh and aged. I always try to keep a few in my humidor to have as an occasional cigar. I agree though that the price is pretty ridiculous, but that can be said for many NC "ultra-premium" cigars, which can run $20 per cigar and up. I think the OpusX is the only premium NC I'd actually pay that kind of money for, although I would never buy a whole box. I just pick up a few singles when I can and maybe smoke 2-3 per year.
MuyDog Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 I really enjoy them, but for the price its hard to justify having them in my regular rotation. Still I like to keep one or two in my humi.
jedipastor Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 At retail price (which is admittedly not easy to find), the Opus X line are fantastic cigars and well worth the coin, imvho. But similar to most Cubans, Opus are much better with some age. For me, I don't smoke them with less than 3 years, and preferably 5 years of age. This tones down the strength a bit (which might be overwhelming for many Cuban cigar smokers), but most importantly it brings out the full flavors of the cigar. I'd recommend that anyone who likes cigars try an aged Opus X, no hesitations.
RijkdeGooier Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 when I'm in the Dominican Republic on the beach - preference for XXX, Robusto and Perfection sizes to smoke regularly. Furthermore, I still have some boxes of specials. Don't know yet whether to smoke or sell them..
Maplepie Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 when I'm in the Dominican Republic on the beach.. Please tell me you walk around with that cuban flag bag too! Sent by the Enigma on BlackBerry. 1
Laxman Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 Used to love the Opus X 10 to 15 years back. Smoked a few nice ones in the last few years. For the price ill spend my money on CC's.
BlueClaw Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 a bit pricey but i do enjoy the Opus X line from time to time. I have a mix of about 20 in my humidor nice and oily wrappers. the biggest challenge here is knowing when stock will get in to buy at a reasonable price.
dan5974 Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 Not really a big fan of the Opus, but for some reason I have to have one every once and awhile.I always keep a few in the humidor.Don't car for VSG's at all.Never had one I enjoyed. Now the Anejo, that's a different story.Love the whole line.I wish Fuente would make one in a perla or minuto size.
saintsmokealot Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 Like most here I had some glorious aged. I don't pursue them much anymore but will always have a soft spot for the Perfecxion 4 & 5.
jdo2110 Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 I used to have a box or so worth of mixed Opus sizes. I really was enchanted with them when I first started smoking cigars I guess because of the allure. With age I find that they are a very nice smoke. Rich, complex and extremely well built. But for the past several years they have just sat there aging. I'm so much of a CC fan that it's hard to reach for anything else. Hell, I have a sealed box of Padron 80th maduro from 2008 that I still haven't got to, and I really don't plan on it. I hope all the coin I put into these cigars doesn't bite me in the tail because they went flat : / For my money, I'll stick with Royal Robustos, Superiores, Mag 50, etc. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
RijkdeGooier Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 Please tell me you walk around with that cuban flag bag too! Sent by the Enigma on BlackBerry. Nah, I have Dominican set for my visits there... after lunch, floating up to my chest in the Carribean, a Power Ranger in my mouth.. Aren't you busy smoking on the mega-herf Toronto?
