malba2366 Posted August 17, 2014 Posted August 17, 2014 I just received my first box from our host and noticed that the humidity in my wineador has gone up from 65 to 71% since I put the box in. Does anyone know if the boxes are stored in extra humidity for some time before being shipped?
SofaKing Posted August 17, 2014 Posted August 17, 2014 I cant comment on how the sticks are stored in the warehouse, however based on personal experience yes. Most retailers know transit will typically subject the cigars to all types of climate changes from hot and dry to frigid and damp. Therefore when you add 25 cigars most likely carrying a humidity of 70% it will have an initial impact on the humidor. I always smoke one within a day or so just to see then let them rest to stabilize to your preferred storage/humidity level.
stogieluver Posted August 17, 2014 Posted August 17, 2014 I doubt the Czar's warehouse humidity is set at anything other than optimal humidity level. There is no way they can predict the changes in humidity and temp the shipment will go through on the way to the destination.
LLC Posted August 17, 2014 Posted August 17, 2014 Not an expert but I'd be surprised if adding one box to a humidor could have that much impact on the humidity.

Plus we're talking about relative humidity, as in relative to dew point. Take a 70%rH box and chill it in the aircraft hold and you suddenly have a very different rH inside the box. No way to predict transit temps so no way to prepare for them other than to seal them up nice and tight. I'm always impressed with the wrapping and packing of my boxes from the gang in Brisbane. Plain brown paper but so neatly done it looks like it's ready for the Christmas tree!

Even the bubble wrap is neatly done!
TheLiquidGator Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 Nothing like opening a "man pack" from Oz.
Stogiedude3 Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 When I recieve new stock I check individual sticks with a moisture meter. They almost always test out 65ish. Any fluctuation I have found has been minimal at best.

Perfect humidity and packaging with every order. Keep up the good work FOH team.
