Popular Post PigFish Posted August 14, 2014 Popular Post Posted August 14, 2014 Coronas! Only cigar a man needs (MHO). To expand a bit, 42 ring is just magic. The #1, the #3, the #4… Balance, size, draw, heft in hand, comfort, girth to draw, elegant to smoke. Life begins and ends with the 42 ring cigar! The coronas is the perfect cigar. Too bad so few people realize it! Too much bread ruins a good sandwich. Too much filler ruins a perfect cigar the same way… -Piggy 7
RijkdeGooier Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 I have yet to try very many Churchill or DC. The lone Churchill I have smoked was a Punch, and the DC was a Lusi. I have boxes of Sir Winnie and BCG ordered so I will report back on that. I also have a box of PGR but I won't be testing those out anytime soon. This may be hearsay, but between the Cohiba Sublime, Montrcisto Sublime, Both French RE and LCDH Bolivar, the VR canada, ED54(what I think is the best version), and the Punch. The sublime has to be up there as well. I am usually not a fan of 50+ ring gauges, but I love sublimes. I can understand your Sublimes taste as it is a special vitola, only used for EL/RE. Some of the better EL are Sublime sized, Cohiba 2004, Monte 2008 come to mind. Regarding the DC, Chuchill and the skinnies they need to be aged to bring out their full potential - 5 year minimum, with more better. H.Upmann and Cohiba need a lot more, say 8 years to start shining. Traditionally those sizes were rolled by the most experienced torcedores and received the better tobacco. Their size also gave them room for development in both aging and smoking. Re the corona's I find them pleasant but lacking the depth of the larger vitola's.
sheppsea Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 I really enjoy all sorts of vitola and the variety is what keeps it interesting, but I suppose Robustos are the ones I enjoy most, its also the final stage before I find ring gauges start to get too thick!
markmurase Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 A vote here for the Double Corona. They are a lot smaller production than some other vitolas. I think they are probably done by more experienced rollers. I believe this makes them more consistent in quality than other vitolas - perhaps
Arazk9 Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 Robusto Party D4 & HDM Epi2 being my favourites so far
Lant63 Posted August 14, 2014 Author Posted August 14, 2014 Robusto Party D4 & HDM Epi2 being my favourites so far I just can't support the Robusto. I feel like there are better representation within each marca witha few exceptions. FOr instance every single day I would choose a RA Superiores over a RASS(i do enjoy them though), an Epi 1 over an EPi 2 and and party shorts over a psd4. I do enjoy the VR Famosos though which is actually a hermosos no 4, and the PL Robusto Asia. The PL Robusto is probably the most accessible larger format PL, but I still hate the size. I feel like a 50 ring gauge cigar needs more length than what a robusto has to offer.
mikek Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 While this is an opinion based thread, the question is not, " What is your favorite vitola?" It is, "What is the best vitola that Cuba produces?" Across every single marca bar none, including every single special production produced, and even including discontinued cigars, what is the size that cuba does best? If you could even rank your top two-ish vitolas including what you think the best cigars in that size are that would be pretty cool too. I will go first. I think the Corona Gorda is the best Cuba has to offer: SS no 2 Punch Punch Ramon Allones Superiores Siglo 4 Mag 46 Ep 1 With a close second to the laguito no 2 format Bolivar RE Germany 2009 (just picked up a new box) Trinidad Fundadores CoLa Monte Especiales (Yet to have a partagas SdC but I will grab some eventually.) Distantish third goes to minutos: Party Short San Christobal EL Principe Ramon Allones SCC Oddly enough my favorite Marca Por Larranaga did not make the list at all.... Armenia go make a RE Corona Gorda! Or, i guess the hermoso no 4 LCDH will have to do. Let the arguing begin..... I'm down with that carona gorda list! Except the Superior never had one!
madmarvcr Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 Hermosos No. 4 - never had a bad one, just wished more brands had this size, looking forward to PL's edition A close 2nd - Marvesas I think every brand should have this size
Edu Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 Im agree that the corona gorda is the best vitola, or at least the most consistent. Looking at reviews, statistics and personal opinion, the corona gorda brother of almost all brands are higher rated than the robustos (jln1 vs jln2, hdmep1 vs hdmep2, etc). The other favorite, at leasts for me, is the minutos (or all petit corona like). I can think about trinidad reyes, party shorts, rascc, etc, all very cosnsistent and really tasty sticks.
egoo33 Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 For me its got to be a robusto perfect length and not too thick not too thin for me
Andrew11 Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 I say the DC, because I think Cuba is the only one who can do it properly. Have never had a NC DC that could keep me entertained throughout the whole stick. Cuba seems to do what no one else can with a DC. My personal fav is the Lonsdale, just perfect IMO. 1
Habana Mike Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 For me the best/most ejoyable vitolas fall in the 38 to 46 ring gauge between 110-190mm I smoke a very wide variety encompassing the smallest to largest RG and length but if was forced to only select one it would be the dalias/cervantes.
joeypots Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 As others have said, no one does the DC like Cuba.
JohnS Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 I've revived this thread because I've been thinking about my favourite vitola size for a few weeks now. I concur with Ray about 42 ring coronas and I've enjoyed lonsdale cigars too. However, as Habanos has favoured larger ring gauges in their latest releases I find I have been turning to 50 ring gauge cigars lately...just have to smoke them slower!
santela Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 I'm gonna say the Pyramids. The five current productions are all superb (although I can't get behind the HU2, but it's got its own followings). Corona Gordas and Robustos also come to mind.
earthson Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 Cuba does the petit corona best. All marcas might not work in that format, but it's my bread n butter. Definitely have to give a shout out to the minutos as well. Ill smoke 2 partagas shorts back to back over a 898 any day!
terrantheman Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 Old Partagas lonsdales in cabs are probably the best cigars imho Cuba ever produced! I've never had a bad one, impossible. I'm talking 70'80's & mid 90's.

madmarvcr Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 +1 Pyramids, as a collective can't beat Monty 2, HU 2, VR Unicos, PSP 2, Dip 2 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
ck475 Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 I have yet to have a Cuban corona Gorda but have really enjoyed that size in the past.
CatchNRelease Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 I like the robusto myself, that's my main smoke...still trying a bunch of other vitolas though
