While this is an opinion based thread, the question is not, " What is your favorite vitola?" It is, "What is the best vitola that Cuba produces?" Across every single marca bar none, including every single special production produced, and even including discontinued cigars, what is the size that cuba does best? If you could even rank your top two-ish vitolas including what you think the best cigars in that size are that would be pretty cool too. I will go first.

I think the Corona Gorda is the best Cuba has to offer:

SS no 2

Punch Punch

Ramon Allones Superiores

Siglo 4

Mag 46

Ep 1

With a close second to the laguito no 2 format

Bolivar RE Germany 2009 (just picked up a new box)

Trinidad Fundadores

CoLa

Monte Especiales

(Yet to have a partagas SdC but I will grab some eventually.)

Distantish third goes to minutos:

Party Short

San Christobal EL Principe

Ramon Allones SCC

Oddly enough my favorite Marca Por Larranaga did not make the list at all.... Armenia go make a RE Corona Gorda! Or, i guess the hermoso no 4 LCDH will have to do.

Let the arguing begin.....sneaky.gif

I think Cuba does petit corona's best. Is there a bad one? That kind of consistency can't be said for a lot of other sizes.

Coronas! Only cigar a man needs (MHO). To expand a bit, 42 ring is just magic. The #1, the #3, the #4… Balance, size, draw, heft in hand, comfort, girth to draw, elegant to smoke. Life begins and end

The corona... the original... which is just a long lost memory.

In order of box quantity, I have the most robustos, then minutos, then coronas/corona gorda.

Although the corona/corona gorda is my hands down favourite. Just wish there were more available!

Hoping for a box of Punch Punch in tomorrow's LFTW.

Maybe the vitola suits our Armenian tastes party.gif

No idea. Very difficult to quantify...

From my gut instinct, Robustos? (including Hermosos No. 4 and Concho No. 2) Because there are quite a lot of them and all of them are of a good level?

Do you give a vitola plus points if they are smokable fresh?

Ninfas, because HSA killed the vitola before they could ruin it. Kind of like hanging up #99 in hockey. I guess Lonsdales are my #66. I'd get upset if I ever saw some dickhead pretending to be Mario. That number is done, and should also be retired.

For me, my favorite is a petit corona/mareva, closely followed by hermosas/robustos. Reason being, I rarely have more than an hour or so to sit down and fully enjoy a cigar. I also enjoy minutos but, to be honest, they always leave me wanting more.

With that said, I do enjoy the larger vitolas IF I have time to fully enjoy them.

The more time I spend on these forums the more Armenians I discover... glad to see the involvement.

I lean more towards the Robusto (Boli RC, Party D, RASS). It seems the more consistent of the vitolas and most marcas have an offering of this size. I like a lot of the Petit Coronas out there as well, but consistency seems to be an issue as I find myself dealing with a lot more plugged cigars.

Just a few things:

1. The Laguito No.2 should be the Laguito No. 1.

2. Technically, the fundadores are bit thicker so they are Laguito Especiales

3.I would also add the Delicados as they are the same as a Laguito No.1, but without the pigtail - Partagas Serie de Connaisseur No.1 for instance.

Generally, the best Cuban vitola for me are Julieta No.2, Prominentes and Delicados/Laguito No.1.

Love the classic Churchills like Taino's, Sir Winston, Esplendidos, RyJ Churchill. The Double Coronas; Lusi, SLR, Hoyo and the skinnies like CoLa, PSdC 1, Monte Esp 1, ERdM GdE...

My favorite vitola is pyramid (Partagas P2), then robusto (D4, RASS, HdMEp.2)

I concur!

pyramid - cohiba, the "2's", extra belicoso

robusto - epi 2, jl 2

Many marca's still in production or somewhat available - Monte 3, Punch RS12, Boli, Hoyo, Vegas Robaina, ERdM...

The Punch RS12 is a mareva, not a corona, and it's hard to find; the Hoyo corona is a waste of time, the VR Familiar is good but overpriced, the ERDM corona de luxe is nice but not worth the premium asked in Germany and Switzerland.

IMHO lol3.gif

Can't say I have a favorite vitola but I do enjoy the feel and performance of dalias/lonsdales (non-box pressed). Long without being too long, and skinny without being too skinny, it's the perfect balance to an elegant cigar. (Party 898, Boli GM, etc)

As far as the most consistent vitola from Cuba, I'd say it's the minutos. Seriously can't say I've had a bad one yet. (Monte 5's, party shorts, RASCC, etc)

I am speaking only of CURRENT production cigars that are EASILY sourced.

Hoyo also has the Hoyo du Roi, then you have Monte 3, Boli tubo 1, RyJ Cedros 2 and Coronas, Vegas Familiar, ERdM Corona de Luxe, QdO Coronas Claro, Punch Coronas, SLR Coronas, Sancho Pancho Coronas..

With litte effort I can easily count 11 cigars in the corona format that are still available.with some searching..

Regarding whether or not they are any good or priced correctly - that is up to the individual I think, apart from obvious bad construction..

Thanks guys! I was to lazy to go look at Trevor's site, and was pretty sure I had it right. I guess not, but thank you!

I have yet to try very many Churchill or DC. The lone Churchill I have smoked was a Punch, and the DC was a Lusi. I have boxes of Sir Winnie and BCG ordered so I will report back on that. I also have a box of PGR but I won't be testing those out anytime soon.

This may be hearsay, but between the Cohiba Sublime, Montrcisto Sublime, Both French RE and LCDH Bolivar, the VR canada, ED54(what I think is the best version), and the Punch. The sublime has to be up there as well. I am usually not a fan of 50+ ring gauges, but I love sublimes.
