wookiemofo Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 I looked into Twine and have an email out to support to see if they can add a module to monitor it, but I'm looking for a way to monitor the RH of my humidor wirelessly... there's gotta be a way right?
AlohaStyle Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Wirelessly as in simply wanting to see what your Rh is while in your house, or do you want it WiFi enabled so you can see it while traveling? If in your house, there's plenty of options. WiFi, there are a couple options but I'm not too familiar with those and if they are good.
AlohaStyle Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 You mentioned Twine so I'm assuming you want WiFi. If so, check out this thread: http://www.friendsofhabanos.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=117960&hl=
wookiemofo Posted July 31, 2014 Author Posted July 31, 2014 WiFi would be nice, however now that I think about it, there's no reason for wifi... there's nothing i can do if I check my phone and the RH is low and I'm not at home! Would just like to avoid checking the humidor that often.
oliverdst Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Xikar has released a wireless temp/RH monitor recently. Another one is Ambient Weather (there are several models - I think WS-10 it was ok to me). I am using my cell phone, no links but you can easily find them in Xikar, Amazon and E-bay homepages. 1
AlohaStyle Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Yes I use Ambient Weather for my cabinet. I have 3 sensors in my cabinet (top, middle, bottom) and can view the temp/Rh on the display on my desk. This is what I have with 3 sensors, but looks like it's their old model now and they have new ones: http://www.ambientweather.com/amws0101.html Scroll down on this link to see the other options: (oops, now edited to the correct link) http://www.ambientweather.com/weather-centers-and-forecasters-by-ambient-weather.html 1

So you're using a setup that allows you to use your smart phone to monitor readings?
oliverdst Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 No, Xikar does not have this feature. Ambient Weather has several models maybe some of them have it. I said "I am using my cell phone" because I didn't write the links. Sometime ago I heard about an app or something like that that let you know temp/rh remotely.
wookiemofo Posted July 31, 2014 Author Posted July 31, 2014 Ah.. that makes sense! This looks interesting http://wirelesstags.myshopify.com/products/copy-of-wireless-motion-sensor-tag-w-13-bit-temperature-and-humidity
Pedro2486 Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Have you considered using a raspberry Pi? There's a couple of ok instructibles on making your own. You can even set up a twitter account for your humi
polarbear Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 The Xikar kit is decent but expensive I've just set one up for a friend of mine and its pretty much plug and play The downside of the Xikar kit is that its expensive and will only allow 3 sensors to be monitored Its a good, simple option if you have a stack of coolers that you want to keep and eye on but if you have a big cabinet or a couple of large fridges, its not as suitable Why do you want to be able to monitor your RH when you're away from home? Aside from the peice of mind it may offer, knowing that everything is working well while youre away, I see no point in knowing the RH has dropped when your 1000's of KM away from home, unless you plan to school your wife/kids/housemate on how to recharge your beads/humidifer while your away
oliverdst Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 I am not sure but I think Xikar does not display the 3 temp/RH at the same time. Ambient Weather does.
Paul3 Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 I use the remote device from Lacrosse (www.lacrossealerts). Monitors RH and temp and connects to the web via Wifi. Very simple set up and I can sign in from any computer or smart phone to check up on the cabinet at home. Data is displayed both numerically and a simple line chart. You can download all data, via Wifi, through a simple Excel spreadsheet. If I remember correctly I paid $60 or so for the entire set up. Includes 1 year of email alerts in accordance with temp and RH levels you choose during setup. After the 1 year is up you retain all functionality minus the alert emails...which I never found to serve any purpose. I have an Aristocrat M Plus cabinet with temp and RH control. I found the Aristocrat system and the Lacrosse device to be within 1 - 1.5 degrees and 3 - 5% RH of each other. Can't calibrate the Lacrosse device so I do the simple math to make sure the cabinet environment is where I want it. I've got no complaints with the Lacrosse system beyond the inability to calibrate, but for what I use the system for I am very happy with the current tolerance levels. Cheers
wookiemofo Posted August 1, 2014 Author Posted August 1, 2014 I don't think I'd need any alerts either. And these would just be for medium/large desktop humis. It gets dry as a bone around here in the winter and something to monitor would be nice. I've got a couple options to research it looks like!
dpodiluk Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 I use this to monitor my coolidor and other places: http://www.amazon.com/Ambient-Weather-WS-10-8-Channel-Thermo-Hygrometer/dp/B00FX8ZGOO/ works really well. I have some in the house, outside, in the garage, basement, coolers, even my beer fridge...
rtrimbath Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 I use an Ambient Weather WS-07 with 2 sensors in my wineador and 2 sensors in my coolidor for a total of 4 sensors, which share a single display screen. You are able to calibrate it unlike the Xikar model, which was the deciding factor for me. Plus, it's less expensive. I'm pretty sure the WS-07 model can handle at least 8 sensors, so if I ever expand my storage I can always buy more sensors. Sorry if this sounds like a commercial, but I love the thing and wanted to give credit where credit is due. Hope this helps! 1
Cisco Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 +1 on Ambient weather with three sensors. I usually calibrate them ever four months or so. Out of the box they can be really off but once calibrated they are reliable. I burry them deep into my wineadors and usually cycle thru each of the three, 1-3 times a day. I am very happy with the set up but being a data geek, I on the lookout for something that can data log and send updates to my smartphone. 1
jimsta10 Posted July 16, 2015 Posted July 16, 2015 Has anyone tried the Knut? or anything that can monitor the humidity / temp wireless via an Iphone app? would love to know your thoughts on the product. cheers Jimmy

jimsta10 Posted July 16, 2015 Posted July 16, 2015 I have been using wirelesstags and love them. UI on iPhone is simple. Hi mate, Are you able to take a few screen shots and upload them here? Would love to see what the rh and temp on the UI looks like. Lastly, how long does the batteries last for? Does it alert you if it is low? Cheers
jimsta10 Posted July 16, 2015 Posted July 16, 2015 Just did some investigating re. WirelessTags...Their solution seems really good and simple to setup. not cheap though...
