The Montecristo 80 Aniversario in 20: Ring 55 x 165mm seems strange to be a "Standard Premium Product". I'm unconvinced this is a standard release, maybe the Club Kings and Medias Coronas are not either. Anyone more clued up? Maybe they are more in a Connie A vein?

I'm more interested in the list of future axed cigars.

Got an email this morning. Some new releases coming out next February. Looks like the festival is Feb 23rd-27th, if anyone's interested.. Anyway Monday night: Romeo y Julieta Gran Reserva Club King

What the &%$# is Habanos thinking? On a scale of bad to utter disaster how bad is the Partagas maduro going to be with the history of the Cohiba Maduros? MHO=pass Romeo y Julieta Gran Reserva

I guess we have had our fair share of long Reserva's (Lusitanias, RyJ Churchill), Pyramide Reserva... next up the Fat Gran Reserva....

I am a sucker for RE's, especially when I travel. But even I see this list as money making BS. Might have to join the ranks of the brother who tags his posts, "Friends don't let friends buy RE's."

A La Escepcion RE? Oy vey.

This appears to be the same source Steve that mailed me yesterday with an update that the Club Kings were going to be next years GR.

My one concern with Wide Churchill Gran Reserva 2009 Cosecha is that they only launched the Wide Churchill in 2010 and some shops didn't see them until nearly 2011.

This would make it the first GR or R where we can't compare it with a regular production cigar from the same year.

It's the year of the Super sized Habanos...yikes

Clearly they are feeling no wrapper leaf shortage with all these monster gauged releases.

Or perhaps it will be at the cost of regular production??

I guess the way things are going this makes Churchills count as long and skinny now at only a 47RG!

That would be an interesting blind taste test..... :)

I wonder will they even bother giving them different factory codes..

Me too...but why so many large ring guages for REs and LEs? Likely because they make more profit off these?

I'm more cynic than expert but I have a growing theory that there is a general 'base cigar' blend for a good chunk of the hsa catalogue, say 80% is the same across a good number of brands then a final addition of a certain selection of leaf is added to the blend to give a change in flavour, of those 5 mentioned, apart from the bolivar, I think it would be very very difficult to identify which cigar was from which marca in a blind tasting.

If true then it could be one of the reasons why some cigars which had inccredibly different taste profiles, like Sancho Panza, Diplomatico etc have been removed from the catalogue or had significant blend changes to fit them into the homogeneous 'Cuban cigar' mould ala the Bolivar gold medal and RYJ cazadorez

Certainly there was hints at this such as the Upmann. Mag 50, can be nice be is never an Upmann and to me is the pure embodiment of the generic CC blend that is becoming disturbingly prevalent

Ramon Allones Robusto XXL in 10: Ring 54 x 150mm

Even though it's not the largest of the offering by a long shot, that name is horrendous, only just noticed it! Maybe I repressed it? Who thought that one up? Was Dave from catering filling in for someone from marketing that day??
