StingMeadery Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 I consider it a fitting accompaniment with a cigar but it's definitely not something you would drink on it's own... Overall consensus is it's a "take it or leave it dram, a little overhyped, possibly overpriced.

El Presidente Posted July 29, 2014 Author Posted July 29, 2014 The Dalmore Cigar Reserve was good. Smokey, sweet with that element of Cointreau on the edges. not sure i would fork out the coin for a bottle but thoroughly enjoyable among great company. 1

godpheonix Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 i bought a bottle during the spirits festival in Moncton, really enjoy it and i beleive it was blended for a partagas D4 in mind!!! i've tried it with one and yup, they meld well together. mind you it was a 5 year old D4...anyway amazing 75 min!!

TiminBC Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 Tried some 8 years ago during a 'scotch period'. Found it ok. My favorite scotch is Lagavulin 16 year old which I used to drink frequently and is very peaky and smoky. I stopped buying it as the price got over $125.00 a bottle and was hard to find. Some Canadian distilleries have upped their game a little and while they do not have the scotch flavors they get the job done and at 1/2 to 1/4 the price here in Canada. I usually drink water with my cigars and follow up with a drink after. I have had a few wines ruin a cigar for me so I shy away from pairing .

Didn't realize there were new offerings until just now. Looks like another quest in the works....

The first time I had it was about ten years ago. Great Scotch....heather, honey, caramel, and rich. At the time it was slightly more expensive than the 12 year ($35 for 12 year / $45 for the Cigar Malt). Last time I saw the Cigar Malt it was $70+ range...too many options in that price bracket for me to buy another bottle. Haven't purchased it going on 8 years...come to think of it, that was the last time I bought any Dalmore. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Have yet to find a 12 year old better than Dalmore (outside port ellen, OF COURSE). 15 year old is a rare treat for me - even better than the 18 year old. But my best whiskey i've ever had (even better than the PE 23) is the Dalmore 22 Year Old. I have it in a cupboard somewhere and break it only during special SPECIAL occasions. Because where else am i going to find a bottle of this grandeur!? However, the cigar malt is a different story. How can you try and make Dalmore strong!?! Bless Richard Paterson and especially his cigar hobby... But the two just can't intermingle. This is the reason the 18 year old is not as good as the 15. For the same reason as the cigar malt. And to hell with the prices!!! I'm not even going to go down that alley. Supporting information: Richard Paterson is the master blender for Dalmore nowadays. He's a known cigar smoker (not sure if part of the community around the UK) and commissioned and blended the cigar malt. Aside: i've yet to try any Dalmores over $300 but know of multiple. Anyone? 1
ChanceSchmerr Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 I enjoyed the old Cigar Malt, but havn't touched the new one whatsoever - vastly overpriced IMO. Especially given the lack of Age Statement! It's not hard to pick a whisky to go with your cigar. Just make sure one doesn't overpower the other. IE - Don't smoke ERDM with Laphroaig, and don't drink a light whisky like Glenlivet with a powerhouse like a Partagas Presidente. 1

Anything this guy comes out with i will trust a decent amount. But the marketing is something that is a tad harder to swallow... Especially with 4 figure bottles!!
