No idea where this should go, so please can a mod move if it's in the wrong place?

My daughter's been granted a wish to do to Disney World for a week in September.
Got me thinking about what smokes to bring back and how best to do it...
I know nothing about decent NC smokes and my experience so far has been poor to say the least.
Could possibly go to Ybor City (but it's a 150 mile round trip, so it's highly unlikely).
Or could hit the net and get them to deliver to our Villa at GKTW.
I can bring back 50 - (or 100 if I include my wife's allowance).
Have no idea where to start or what to go for. The only thing I think I've found out so far is to stay away from Gurkhas!
Any thoughts, help or advice would be most welcome.
I've had a look at a few sites already and the choice is dizzying - I have a feeling a lot of them will be a bit poor though...
I fancy trying the Punch bareknuckle, but haven't got beyond that really!

You're right, the choices are near endless. Many like Padron. I am a fan of Arturo Fuente. Unfortunately, I don't know where locally to get some, as I am on the other coast, and you know us Americans...geography is not a strength. Punch makes some really good cigars, the Bareknuckle being one of them. The Uppercut is also good. Many NC smokers also like Drew Estate. Specifically the Liga Privada or Undercrown lines. Stay away from ACID. Hopefully others chime in for you. Have fun Stateside!

Hopefully you'll have some time to do some smoking while you're here, before you have to buy your boxes, so you can figure out what you like. There are some very good cigars, and much different from Cuban cigars. I would suggest trying some cigars in your favorite vitolas from the following marcas to get your choices narrowed down:

- Illusione

- Tatuaje (the Miami made ones with the brown bands. Avoid the Havana VI line)

- Padron (don't neglect the regular line and just go straight to the expensive Padrons (which are very good, too); the cheap ones are very good, simple cigars: try a Palmas)

- Fuente (I would start with the Don Carlos and Hemingway lines)

- Don Pepin Garcia - I like the original blue banded line, especially the lancero.

That's where I would start; get yourself 10 or 15 singles and start smoking through them. If you find some you like, that's better than guessing and buying boxes that you might not like when you get home.

There's a huge cigar store called Corona in Orlando. I've never been, but I've heard it's a nice shop.

It would be hard for me to recommend a box without knowing your taste preferences.

IMO pick up a sample of various cigars to try and you will have a better idea what to purchase next time you return.

The below are in no specific order & some may of be limited availability -

Arturo Fuente Anejo (Sharks are hard to find)

Arturo Fuente (Don Carlos, Hemingway & Work of Art)

Opus X

God of Fire

Padron 1926 & 1964 (Natural & Maduros)

Tatauaje (Petit Cazadore Reserva for sure & other brown labels)

Drew Estates (No. 9 & T52s)

Jose Sejas

La Flor Dominicana

Punch Rare Corojo

Ashton VSG

EP Carrillo Short Run

Herrera Esteli

Flor de las Antillas

If you can find a God of Fire cigar try that. They are pricey though, 20 bucks a stick. My favourite is the Churchill.

err... the question was "how to get them while I'm there"... innocent.gif

My advice: get a cabinet of 50 Illusione Rotchildes if you find them. One of the best Q/P ratio ever, IMHO.

http://www.coronacigar.com/

store is in Orlando, possibly you could make a list of what you want and stop in .................

They also offer a catalog, email them and maybe they can send it before you leave on your trip........

Ashton,Fuente,Padron are representative of medium NC sticks, the Padron being the fullest bodied.

La Flor Dominicana Double Ligero can make you see spots, sweat and feel nauseous.

San Lotano Habano is a good Nica stick.

Paul Garmirian makes broadly flavored blends, full flavored.

Pepin Garcia blue label is worth a try.

If you try these you will have an excellent idea of what things are like, however certainly not the full spectrum of blends.

Definitely do get a handfull of Maduro sticks,Padron,San Lotano,Pepin Garcia all have them.......

You will find there are few corona sized sticks.Robustos abound, toro and gordo and larger are the normal fare in the US.......

To be fair, I was wondering if it would be worth buying some on the net and having them delivered to our villa...

I would keep an eye out for Regius, one of the best NC cigars out there in my opinion. Lots of new, good stuff being made that isn't like all the old NC's that most people bash (and really, deservedly so). Elogio, El Cedro, Cabal are also good. Padron 1964 as well, but expensive. I'd say skip the Padron 26, good but not worth the price jump over the 64.

Well... first of all what are you looking for? Bold, mild, peppery, smooth, etc?

Some of my favorites right now:

Las Calaveras

Tatuaje Regios Reserva

My Father

Liga Privada No 9

Padron 1926 Maduro

Opus X (these need years of downtime)

Quesada Espana Short Robustos and Coronas

Try em at corona cigar and then mail order your boxes cheaper

all the suggestions above are excellent

I would be buying Drew Estate Black Market. Former Fuente nut.

Once of the better super cheap NC's is Consuegra.

Cheers guys. Fave smokes so far are hdm Petit robustos, punch Petit coronations, rg perla, upmann half corona...

Anything along those lines would be good- i'm still new to cigars and trying to find my way...

NC: Excalibur, Chateau Fuente, Davidoff Seconds called Private Stock, Drew Estates anything in their line, try a Padron

I really liked the tatuaje 10th anniversary noellas. It's a corona size with lots of coffee cream flavor. I also like everything Padron makes my favorite of the Padron is the 85th anniversary maduro.

Just finished a fuente don carlos robusto. I love so many things about it. Hemingway is also good, but prefer the maduro if they can be found. Happy shopping!

I would agree with what most have said and would really gravitate towards the fuente anejo line, any padrons, my father la flor de los Antilles and le bijou lines, and liga privada by drew estate. If you make it to ybor, PM me and I will meet up with you for a smoke at one of the nice cigar bars down there.

Based on that:

-Quesada Espana

-Tatuaje black corona gorda

-Headley Grange

-Hererra Esteli

-My Father

-illusione MK

I'm sure there are others, but these are ones I've tried that are in a similar vein. That being said, since you're looking for something different that Cubans, you could go all the way to the other end of the spectrum and go completely different with a number of maduros: Liga Privada 9, Tatuaje Regios Reserva, Las Calaveras, etc.

I personally would go the Maduro route, but it's a risk since you've never smoked one.
