Popular Post soutso Posted July 16, 2014 Popular Post Posted July 16, 2014 I bought this box before watching the review on FOB where this cigar was hammered! Having said that I appreciated the honesty of the reviewers.I love a great Monte 2 more than anything else and was delighted by the release of a petit version - so you can sneak it in, in under an hour. The wrapper is nice and oily and it's construction looks spot on. I should have taken a pic before lighting. The cigar felt a little tight so I was worried about a potential plug or poor draw. After snipping the tip I was relieved to experience a nice and clear draw with a slight resisitance but in a good way.First third:From the first puff the sweetness came through. I am always nervous with Monte 2s because I believe that a good start is vital in indicating that a positive experience will ensue. I don't think I've had one that started poorly and improved. With regard to the taste, you often read or hear the description as baked bread, I would go a little further and say that the scent and flavour is reminiscent of walking into a bakery whilst they bake their sweeter delights. There is a beautiful sweetness to it.I often retro hale, it gives me another perspective of the flavour. I love it when the retro hale is smooth and this is exactly that. The ash is developing nicely. At the end of the first third I can taste that cinnamon at the back of my throat/tongue. Second Third:I'm so happy! This cigar is giving the intended Monte 2 experience. The second third is nice and consistent. It feels good to draw on too. It's like you're sucking in a syrup (in a good way) I guess by now you've picked up that I'm a sweet tooth! There's this creaminess in this cigar. Beautiful. Chocolatey flavours abound too.As I finish the second third I notice the draw is getting tighter. The flavours are still coming through though. Cinnamon in the main one now. Great aftertaste too.Last third:It's starting to bite every few puffs, but just a little. Perhaps it's due to the cigars youth but that's only a guess. I actually like it in any case.It is also getting slightly sour but only at he end of this last third. This is a young cigar and this may explain why but I can confirm that the nicer flavours have been present throughout. I suspect this will age beautifully. I think I'm 12 months away from near perfection - by my standards that is.This cigar has delivered all the way. I'm a verry happy man. 7
elam370 Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 I've honestly had way more luck with the petite Monte No. 2s than I've had with the regular No 2s. Of course why they're charging so damn much for what is basically a shorter No 2 is entirely baffling to me.
SmokeyJoe99 Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 Great review. Makes me want one tonight Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
dicko Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 I want to try these as i find the full pyramid size can be that bit too much. The price is off-putting as mentioned by elam370 Thanks for the review it sounds delicious though!
elam370 Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 I want to try these as i find the full pyramid size can be that bit too much. The price is off-putting as mentioned by elam370 Thanks for the review it sounds delicious though! The only advantage is that it seems the Petite No. 2 doesn't finish nearly as harshly as young regular No. 2s. From what I can tell its pretty much the same blend. Although the Petite seems to pack a bit more flavor.
rickmccarey Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 Nice review! I'm a big fan of these so far. Out of the handful I've had they've all been amazing. I remember smoking my first after i just ordered my box of Monte 2s and thinking "wow I hope the monte 2 are as good as this one" ,sadly the Monte 2 haven't been. Either way I'm sold on these. Maplepie Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 very good review on those and will x2 on the ageing comment. biting seems to comefrom that and hope you will follow this up in a year and three. very curious to see how they do, indeed!! One thing i really love is that every time the cigar was pictured, the background changed. Gave it a really good timeliness of the review! . Hope to see more as these are very fun quick reads!
Onelove Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 Hi soutso, was just wondering how old this stick was. I've got a box from November last year and while I've only tried one it was very underwhelming. Positives were an easy draw which I was in the mood for on a lazy Sunday afternoon, and a lot of smoke. Flavours were mixed. I got a little cinnamon in the 2nd third and a hint of chocolate for 2 seconds right in the middle and the cuban twang but they were all very subtle. The rest of the time I thought it tasted like a large cigarette, and if anything else green tea. Perhaps my palate isn't developed enough yet.
soutso Posted August 12, 2014 Author Posted August 12, 2014 Hi Onelove, Box code is EAG NOV13 Young sticks. Mine are quite oily/shiny and smell nice. They say storing them as dry as possible (65rh) will show you the best flavour. I know that it has improved my experience.
Onelove Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 Thanks for that. Mine were at 70rh and 20c (approx 68f for the yanks) I'll try them lower rh. Mine are also very oily / shiny with a fantastic aroma, think that's why I was so disappointed. Felt a couple others out of the box and they felt fuller / better so I'm still optimistic with these.
soutso Posted August 12, 2014 Author Posted August 12, 2014 Mate I used to store at 70rh and after a bit of time reading posts on this site I saw that most seem to keep theirs at 65. I can definitely confirm that for me, it has worked. Cheers
PapaDisco Posted August 17, 2014 Posted August 17, 2014 Damn those things were pretty! Very nice construction from the photos it appears.
Onelove Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 Tried another after lowering rh in humi not sure if it was this or just a better stick but a marked improvement. Got woody flavours first though still with some tea, sweet spice and again chocolate in the middle, then more wood and sweet spice to finish with a creamy feeling in my mouth for most of the cigar. There was something else like a hint of mint or something sporadically making my lips tingle. As stated in the op I think these will be better after a decent rest. All this could be perception though as my noob palate gets it's legs.
Versus1ss Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 this maeks me want to try one. I agree with most people when it comes to the price why pay a euro to two difference for a shoerter cigar but this at least pushes me to try one.
brownpeter335 Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Nice review, very well described. I will definitely smoke this cigar.
tacosowner Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 Agree, love the Monte, will try this one Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
